GRAMMAR POINT: PAST SIMPLE IRREGULAR VERBS

1.Look at the sentences in Listening 2 again. Complete the chart.

2. Listen to your teacher and repeat the present and past sentences.

3. Read the rules.

go, spend, get are irregular verbs. They change from the present to the past.

Remember to use verbs in the past ONLY in affirmative sentences.

In negatives and questions, we use:

I don’t get it - I didn’t get it Do you get it? - Did you get it?

Some other irregular verbs are: have - had, do - did, give - gave, eat - ate, drink - drank.

The verb CAN in the past is COULD.

The affirmative and negative forms are different. (We don’t use DID/DIDN’T).
4. Write the sentences in the past using the time expression in brackets.
