Section 1: Review

Reflecting on my two-year course, I've seen significant growth in my acting, dancing, and singing
abilities. I now feel more comfortable experimenting both on stage and with other areas of my
life. I have matured significantly, becoming more aware of global issues and more empathetic
towards other people's emotions.

My perspective on the world has broadened, including the area of experimental theatre. My
confidence has soared, enabling me to comfortably express my opinions without worrying about
ridicule.

The course has helped me understand the importance of research and this has enhanced my
investigative skills and improved my overall writing ability. I have become much more analytical
when watching plays or films, whereas before, I would simply take them at face value without
considering their quality.

Exploring various parts of performance has been enlightening. I've decided to pursue further
experience through the Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance course to deepen my skills
before committing to a specific performance path, be it acting or musical theatre. I've acquired a
diverse range of techniques from professional practitioners, broadening my understanding of
performance arts. From stage combat to directing, screen acting to abstract dance, even
clowning and puppetry, I've learned about numerous disciplines.

Research projects have underpinned the significance of social and political contexts in theatrical
productions. I've tackled individual projects such as a Transformer stop motion film, dance
duets, while also collaborating on group projects. These experiences have molded me into a
more adaptable and knowledgeable performer, with the confidence to follow a career in
Performing Arts.

Section 2: Project Concept

"Little Shop of Horrors" (by Howard and Menkin) is a comedic horror musical set in the 1960’s, about a
timid florist who cultivates a man-eating plant, Audrey II, leading to moral dilemmas as they grapple with
fame, greed, and the consequences of their actions.

Our production of the show is reimagining the classic musical with a ‘queer’ twist, while staying true to
the original spirit. Our aim is to showcase the talent and creativity of our cast and crew by putting our
unique spin on this iconic show.

I will portray my Character Skip Snip as a captivating yet sinister figure who embodies the dangers of
succumbing to temptation. He drives the plot forward while serving as a cautionary reminder of the
perils of making deals with the devil.

The aim of our show is to create a unique production that surpasses any specific historical era while
vividly embodying the flamboyance and extravagance characteristic of camp culture.

As a student of musical theater, I will acquire improved practical skills in acting, singing, dancing and
stagecraft. Our production entails four live performances, preceded by five weeks of intensive
rehearsals. We have already allocated roles, conducted initial research, and started rehearsals.

Studying at BTA, we benefit from a diverse cast and crew, professional practitioners along with
resources including rehearsal space, costumes, set design, and technical equipment, enabling us to
grasp our vision and showcase two years of our growth as performers.

Section 3: Evaluation
As reflection on my performance is crucial for my growth and development as a performer, I will pay
attention to what worked well and areas that I feel need improvement. I will do this by taking time to
write down my thoughts and feelings after each day of intensive rehearsals. I will document how I felt
during the rehearsals, and any significant moments that stood out for me. I will combine these notes and
other reflections from the week to create a weekly video diary to plot my journey in this show.

I will create a weekly action plan detailing my completed tasks and outlining my goals for the upcoming
week. Through effective organization and goal setting, I will maintain a consistent quality in my work and
ensure tasks are completed on time.

I aim to approach each rehearsal as a learning opportunity. I will seek constructive feedback from peers
as well as from professionals supporting me.

I will try to reflect on my emotional state before, during, and after the rehearsal performances to gauge
how nerves or other emotions impact on my delivery as this will help me to find strategies to manage
them.

I'll maintain my commitment to learning and researching aspects related to the show. However, I will set
aside time for relaxation and engaging in my hobbies as this is important for mental well-being,
especially during hectic rehearsals.
