Daniel® Gas Chromatographs

Daniel Danalyzer™ Gas Chromatographs set the standard

in offering accurate on-line analysis of natural gas with
decades of experience in providing robust and reliable field-
mounted gas chromatographs. Whether the analysis is the
heating value measurement, trace contaminant monitoring,
pipeline integrity, or product quality, Daniel on-line Gas
Chromatographs have the proven solution for these
measurements.
Daniel Danalyzer Gas Chromatographs have established
their place in the industry for offering low cost of ownership.
Due to the analyzer’s ability to be field-mountable without
sacrificing the precision or reliability, the gas measurement
can be made at or near the sample point — greatly reducing
such expenses as shelters, air conditioning, heating,
and long/heated sample lines. Furthermore, Danalyzer
GC’s are designed to operate for long periods of time
without adjustment. When adjustments are required, all
components are easily accessible and can be performed in
the field in minutes. Many adjustments can even be made
remotely via a PC workstation communicating over a modem.
Danalyzer GC’s offer the best measurement precision in the industry. “ THE DANALYZER
This precision of measurement can drastically reduce unaccounted BTU OFFERS THE BEST
losses. For example, on a 20 MMSCF/day pipeline, just a 1 BTU/SCF
error (0.1%) would result in over $42,000/yr in lost and unaccounted gas PRECISION IN THE

How Gas Chromatographs Work
Gas Chromatography is the separation of a mixture of chemical
compounds due to their different migration rates through a chromatograph
column. This separates the compounds by boiling point differences,
polarity differences or differences in molecular size.
The separated compounds then flow across a suitable detector such as a
Thermal Conductivity Detector that determines the concentration of each
compound represented in the overall sample.

Legendary Performance and Reliability
Daniel Danalyzer™ Difference
Daniel pioneered the use of on-line Gas Chromatographs (GCs) for
the natural gas industry over 20 years ago. The Danalyzer’s reliable
performance has made it the industry standard for natural gas analysis.
This performance is based off of a number of key technology differences
that are found in all of our GCs.

Airless and Air Bath Oven Designs

Daniel Danalyzer Gas Chromatographs offer two choices in analytical oven
design for chromatographs depending on the application and location:
Airless (Heat Sink) Oven–The Heat Sink oven in the Danalyzer Model
500 and 700 GC integrates detector, columns and analytical valves in a
single temperature-controlled assembly. This unique design enables the
analyzer to be mounted in the field without the need for elaborate weather
protection or instrument air.
Air Bath Oven–The Air Bath oven in the Danalyzer Model 1000 GC uses
a conventional instrument air heater design for applications needing
enhanced analytical flexibility.

Gas Chromatograph Valves

The chromatograph valves used in Danalyzer Gas Chromatographs are
unique to the on-line gas chromatograph market with greatly extended
operating life. Daniel is the only on-line gas chromatograph supplier to
offer a lifetime warranty on their chromatograph valves!

Danalyzer™ Model 570/571
The Danalyzer™ Model 570 (and the Model 571 ATEX-certified version)
Gas Chromatograph has long been known as the analyzer of choice
for the most precise measurement of the chemical composition of the
Natural Gas from N2 and CO2 through C6+. This analysis is so precise
that the precision of analysis is an amazing ½ BTU in 1000 BTU (±0.05%
CV) over the entire ambient temperature range. And like all Daniel GCs,
the Danalyzer Model 570 and 571 are thoroughly tested to verify their
performance by running in walk-in environmental testing chambers —
cycling between 0°F and 130°F — for 24 hours minimum.

Complete compositional analysis of pipeline gas (C1 – C6+, N2 and

CO2) and calculates the Heating Value, Compressibility as well as
other gas properties
Extremely high precision of analysis (±0.05% BTU over complete
temperature range and ±0.025% BTU when installed in temperature
controlled environment)

Danalyzer™ Model 590/591

The Danalyzer™ Model 590 (and the Model 591 ATEX-certified version)
Gas Chromatograph is the analyzer of choice for those Natural Gas
applications needing an extended compositional analysis for better
accountability of the heavier compounds. By using two detectors,
the GC is able to measure all the way to the C9+ peak with a 2
ppm minimum detectability. This supports a more complete AGA8
calculation and even makes a Hydrocarbon Dewpoint calculation
possible. Furthermore, for applications needing the measurement
of H2S, this can be done in the same analyzer if the compositional
measurement is only C6+.

Ideal measurement solution for compositional analysis of

rich pipeline quality gas for better accountability of the
heavier components
Supports a more complete AGA8 calculation as well as
providing an optional Hydrocarbon Dewpoint calculation
When doing a C6+ analysis, the Danalyzer Model 590/591
can also measure 0 – 50 ppm H2S in the same analyzer

Analyzer Networking & Data Communication
Danalyzer™ Gas Chromatographs offer the widest range of communication
options to meet your specific requirements whether it is collecting data
from remote pipeline locations or analyzers inside a modern plant network.
Options include telephone modems, serial connections (RS-232 and
485), Ethernet networks as well as multi-drop RS-485 networks. It is
even possible to set up automatic polling for data collection if desired.
Data communication options to the plant control system include simple
analog and discrete signals as well as Modbus serial links. To preserve
the integrity of the analysis data, all Danalyzer Gas Chromatographs are
capable of storing up to 99 days of analysis data in the event of loss of
communication to the plant control system.

Networking Flexibility
Whether you want to network gas chromatographs throughout the plant or
simply link a single gas chromatograph to a flow computer, the Danalyzer
Gas Chromatograph can be configured to handle most any scenario:
Choice of Ethernet or RS-485 network
Can use same network to connect Danalyzer Model 700, Model
500 and Model 1000 gas chromatographs
Able to connect multiple PC workstations using MON2000
Connectivity using industry standard protocols such as Modbus
and OPC

Secure Modbus Connectivity

For on-line gas chromatographs, Modbus continues to be the preferred
choice to connect a gas chromatograph to flow computers or SCADA
systems. The Danalyzer GC Modbus design avoids the use of central
interface cards or computers that can act as a single-point of failure in
the Modbus link. Instead, the plant DCS system can “talk” directly to each
gas chromatograph to gather the data needed. Furthermore, the register
and coil addresses can be easy customized
to meet the specific data structure of the
DCS. There is also a program built
into the MON2000 workstation to
test the Modbus link to the DCS if
troubleshooting is needed.
