How not to let rumours affect your

relationship

Gossips, for many, can be very entertaining

when it’s about others. But when the gossip
is about you or someone you care about
deeply, it can be very hurtful. Often
unconstrained, gossip or rumour has this
innate ability to spread like wildfire, thereby
leaving the reputation of the people involved
in shreds. The worst thing about rumour or
gossip is people are not interested in
knowing if it’s true or not, most buy what
they get. While any kind of gossip can be very
hurtful, the pain grows a notch intense when
it is about you and your love life. Whether it’s
about a toxic ex or something that happened
in the past love life, any hurtful rumour,
whether true or not, can cause a lot of mental
agonies—after all, people talking behind your
back, isn’t fun, right? So here are a few ways
to make yourself and your relationship with a
lover immune to gossip.

Keep yourself busy

Do you know what fuels a rumour? Curiosity

and an attempt to douse it. The more you try
to stop gossip or a rumour, the stronger it
grows. When you hear any nasty gossip or
rumour about yourself and your love life, do
yourself a favour by ignoring it completely.
Yes, we agree that it can be very disturbing,
and a distraction will be the best medicine for
your disturbed mind. Try to keep yourself
busy, go out with friends you trust, pick a new
hobby etc. When people witness how
unaffected you are by their venomous words,
they would stop talking about it.

One who gossips to you, will gossip about

you

There is an old proverb that says, “one who

gossips to you, will gossip about you.” Here’s a
very important lesson for all. No matter how
good you are with someone, if that person
has this habit of gossiping about others with
you, he or she would someday gossip about
you as well. It’s best to avoid such people or at
least don't engage in gossips with such
characters if you don’t want to become a
victim of his gossip in the future.

Keep your partner informed

If the rumour involves your past love life or it’s

something that connects you with your ex-
lover, it’s always best to keep your current
partner informed about it. As long as you
have the support of the person you love most,
it does not matter what hundred others are
talking behind your back.

You don’t have to go through this alone

We understand how difficult it is to handle

malicious rumours about yourself. More than
the pain, it’s the breach of trust that hurts the
most; because rumours are mostly started by
someone you know. It’s not uncommon for
people to become victims of malicious gossip
after a break-up, all thanks to their toxic ex.
Dealing with such rumours can be mentally
taxing and stressful. Trust us, you don’t need
to go through all these alone. If you have a
friend whom you can trust, you can confide
in him or her. In case, you are very disturbed
by such news, you can always take the help of
a counsellor.
