ACTUAL VIDEO TRANSCRIPT Setting, props, and scene:
“This is a story of a man living in the U.S. in
the 1970s”
“He desperately wants to become an actor”
“But things aren’t going in his way. He is
deadbroke, and can’t pay his bills.”
“And he always get quarrels all the time
because he doesn’t want to take on a normal job.”
“He knows that once he starts earning a
regular wage, and that he will eventually forget his dream of being an actor and just live his own life like an ordinary person.”
“He would rather live on the streets than
become someone else, like a wage-slave.”
“In his last attempt to get luck on the side,
he decides to take his pet, and take a trip to another city.”
“So that he can try and breathe life into the
acting career.”
“Because eventually, this city is where the
great movie studios are.”
“It made sense to him because he can
audition for several roles in a day, without the need of a car, because he cannot afford one.”
“But the new city can’t change his destiny
and still, studios reject him daily.”
“They also don’t want him as an actor.”
“What made it twice as hard for him, is that
he has a serious medical condition, in which he has slurred speech.” “He desperately runs out of money, and spends his afternoons in a library because of the warmness.”
“He is surrounded with books, and decides
to write screenplays, and goes into a frenzy of writing plays.”
“Play after play, he submits all of them to the
studios, but again he gets rejected all the time, for 1000 times.”
“He can’t afford much money for his pet
anymore, so he goes down to a store and sells his pet to an anonymous person.”
“It is regarded as the lowest point in his life.”
“He felt devastated, and couldn't believe
what he had done.”
“He goes to a bar to drown his sorrows, with
the last money he had in his wallet.”
“While drinking his liquor and stressing
himself too much, he noticed something, a scene of an Interstellar movie showing on TV, the motivating song playing in the background, and a paper containing a motivating poem.”
“A boxing match was also seen on the other
TV screen, which is Muhammad Ali vs. Chuck Wepner, the underdog.”
“Ali was regarded once as an influential
boxer, but the fight was memorable. The underdog backs up when Ali hits him.”
“He also even managed to drop Ali to the
floor, and fought his heart and soul for the whole 15 rounds.”
“Ali may have won on points, but the
underdog managed a moment of eternity against the greatest boxer of all time.” “For the whole 15 rounds, Wepner wasn’t a loser, but he was regarded by the boxing community as a “remarkable, brave, and vicious boxer.””
“So after watching the whole fight, he starts
moving back to his home, and starts writing a play.”
“The play was set in the city of the 76ers, and
is about a white working class guy who grabs a shot for the heavyweight title of the world in boxing.”
“He sends the script to all the studios, but
again, but no one wanted to accept his play.”
“One day as he was auditioning for a role as
an actor, he was rejected.”
“But as soon as he leaves the audition room,
he stops by and remembers that he has the script in the bag.”
“He shouts to the producers that he’s got an
amazing story, which they should check out.”
“Reluctantly, they took it and promised him
that they’ll see and read it thoroughly. “
“After 2 days, he receives a call from the
studio, thay they want to make the movie.”
“They offered him a hefty sum of money for
the script. But again, he declined.”
“The reason being so is that the studio won’t
allow him to play the lead role.”
“Hours and hours passed by, the studio and
the person negotiated with peace.”
“He agreed to take a small amount of money
for the script, and not the whole hefty one for a chance of becoming a famous actor.”
“It may be a huge risk, but he knew that if
the movie becomes successful, without him, he would regret forever.” “After sealing the deal with the studio, he runs back to the liquor store.”
“He stayed there for 2 days until the stranger
walked again with the pet.”
“He told the stranger that he had money,
and wanted his pet back.”
“But the stranger didn’t want to hear any of
it.”
“So, he offered a huge amount of money and
a small role in the movie.”
“His role was to be a referee in a boxing
match.”
“The stranger agreed with him, and decided
to produce the movie together, using the budget from the studio.”
“He uses his friends and family for bit-part
roles to save money.”
“Most of the shots were made in just a
simple take, with an ordinary camera.”
“He finished editing the movie, and before it
hits the theatres, a director’s guild screening was done.”
“He brought his mother, and the room was
packed with lots of people, all from the film industry.”
“It didn’t go out well, no laughing, and the
fight scenes didn’t produce any response to the viewers.”
“One by one, people start leaving the
cinema, until the stranger and his mother are the only ones left.”
“The mother told him that he can come back
home, put his life back, to grab a job, and move on.” “He guided his mother down the three flights of stairs to the lobby, and suddenly, the entire audience was waiting for him.”
“They start applauding loudly.”
“He eventually cried, with tears of joy, and all
his perseverance and hard work paid off.”
“Eventually, the movie received several
Oscar nominations.”
“The movie was made for less than a million
dollars, with ordinary cameras, and gained a huge amount of box office sales.”
