At the Clinic
Mei Ling has a little brother, Wei Chun. Last week, little Wei Chun
became ill with a fever. Mei Ling’s mother took him to the clinic. Mei Ling
went along, too.
At the clinic, the doctor examined Wei Chun’s chest, mouth, stomach and
eyes. Later, the doctor also checked his legs and arms to make sure he was
all right.
Mei Ling liked what the doctor did to her baby brother. She wanted to be
examined too. The doctor talked to her and gave her some sweets. She was
very happy. After paying for the medicine, they went home.
A Good Deed
Lily and her family went for a picnic by the sea yesterday.
When they reached there, Lily’s father laid a mat under a shady
tree. Then, her mother put the picnic basket on the mat.
Lily and her brother changed into their swimming costumes
and swam in the sea. After swimming, they had lunch with their
parents . Then, they built sandcastles on the beach. They enjoyed
themselves very much.
My New House
Hi, my name is Alice. I live in a big double-storey house. The
living room, dining room and the kitchen are downstairs. These are the
rooms my family and I spend our time together eating meals, watching
television or chit-chatting. There is also a bathroom downstairs.
There are three bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. My favourite room
is my bedroom. It has got white walls with small pink flowers on them.
There is a study table and a cupboard in my bedroom. My bed is very
cosy. I love my bedroom very much.
A Greedy Boy
Once a poor boy met a kind woman. She wanted to help him. She
told him to take as many gold coins as he could in a bag. The boy
began putting the gold coins into his bag. When it was almost full, the
woman asked him if he had had enough.
He did not stop but continued to put the coins into his bag. When
he picked up the bag, it burst. All the coins fell to the ground and
turned into worms. At last, he had nothing because he was too greedy.
My Favourite Movie
I like watching movies. My favourite movie is ‘Ratatouille’.
The movie is about a little mouse named Remy who likes to cook
and dreams to be a famous chef. Although he faces many
difficulties, he tries his best to overcome them.
It is indeed the most fascinating movie that I have ever watched.
A Train Ride
James is very excited. His family are going back to their
hometown by train. This is the first time they are travelling by
train.
After boarding the train, he hears a whistle. Then, the train
begins to move from town to the countryside.
He looks out the window. The scenery along both sides of the
railway makes him happy.
At the Funfair
Last week, my parents took my brother and me to the funfair near
our house.
There were many people at the funfair. We took a ride on the
Ferris wheel, flying carpet and magic train. It was so much fun!
Later, we played at the game stalls. My brother won a toy sports
car. We had a great time.
Sports Day
Last Saturday was Shu Yin’s school Sports Day. It was held at
the stadium. Many people came to watch.
Shu Yin took part in the 200-metre race. Her friends, Siti and
Melinda, also took part in the same event.
Shu Yin came out third in the race. She won the bronze medal.
Her family and friends cheered and clapped happily for her.
My Aquarium
My aquarium is made of glass and it is rectangular in shape.
I keep five goldfish in my aquarium. I feed the fish every
evening. I have also grown some seaweed in it.
My father helps me to clean the aquarium at weekends.
When I am free, I like to watch the fish swimming gracefully in
the water.
Chinese New Year
Today is Chinese New Year. Yen Kheng and Yen Jie are excited.
In the morning, they put on their new clothes. Then, they wish
their parents and grandparents ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’ and receive ‘ang
pows’ from them. They also receive many ‘ang pows’ from relatives
and friends who come to visit.
When their relatives and friends come to visit, they eat cookies,
mandarin oranges and prawn crackers. Everyone has a good time.
Children’s Day
Last Friday, Yu Fan celebrated Children’s Day in his school.
In the morning, there were performances in the hall. There
were magic show, dances, singing and sketches.
After that, they went back to their class to have a class party.
There were noodles, chicken curry, fruits and many more dishes.
Yu Fan and his classmates were each given a present. The
celebration ended at 12.45 p.m.
The Puppy in the Well
Danny is not only very fond of cookies but he is also very greedy.
One day, Danny went into the kitchen. He took a jar of cookies down from the
shelf. He put his hand into the jar. He was so greedy that he grabbed as many as
he could with his hand, but when he tried to withdraw his hand, he could not.
His hand was stuck in the neck of the jar. Unwilling to forgo the cookies and
unable to withdraw his hand, Danny became very sad that he burst into tears.
The Greedy Boy
Danny’s mother heard him and came running into the kitchen.
‘You greedy boy! You should take only a few cookies. Then, you
will be able to withdraw your hand from the jar,’ said Danny’s mother
angrily.
The Dog and the Crane
A dog and a crane met in a forest and became friends. The dog invited the
crane to his home for dinner. The crane went happily to the dog’s home. The
dog placed some food on a large, flat dish to serve the crane. The crane could
not eat the food because he had a long, pointed beak. The dog did not care
about his guest. He quickly ate and licked the dish clean. The crane was very
angry and decided to teach the dog a lesson. Politely, he invited the dog to
have dinner with him the next day.
The Dog and the Crane
The next evening, the dog went to the crane’s house for dinner. He was
surprised when he saw that the food was placed in a pitcher with a long neck.
He walked around the pitcher, wondering how to get the delicious food inside.
The crane, on the other hand, ate the food with his long beak.
When the food was all finished, the dog went home, feeling hungry. The
crane had indeed taught him a lesson.
The Thoughtful Boy
Freddy’s neighbour was an old man who lived all by himself. When
Freddy’s parents were away at work, he would keep the old man company. He
called him Uncle Bob.
One morning, Freddy kept his share of a cake which his mother had baked.
He visited Uncle Bob and gave him the piece of cake. Uncle Bob was very
happy and said, ‘What a thoughtful boy you are!’ Then, he went to his old
cupboard and took out an old stamp album. He gave the album to Freddy.
The Thoughtful Boy
In the album were many rare and beautiful stamps. What a pleasant
surprise Freddy had!
Tooth Decay
After you have eaten your food, tiny bits of food are left in the
spaces between your teeth. If you don’t brush away these tiny pieces
of food, germs will act on them and start to attack the hard outer
covering of your teeth. The hole the germs make in your tooth is
called a cavity.
Tooth Decay
You can prevent tooth decay by brushing your teeth after meals.
Brushing your teeth after every meal is a good habit to have. You should
also visit the dentist at least twice a year. He will check to see if there are
any cavities in your teeth. If there are, he will clean them to get rid of the
germs and put in some fillings in the cavities to prevent tooth decay.
When a cavity gets very deep, you will have a toothache. Inside each
tooth, there is a soft area of nerves. When a cavity reaches that area, it
hurts.
Lost in the Crowd
Little Alex went to a shopping centre in town. He was with his parents.
There were many shoppers and the whole place was very crowded. Alex’s
parents told him to stay close to them.
There were many toy shops and Alex was interested in all of them. He ran
to look at some of the toys. When he had finished looking at the toys, he turned
around to find his parents gone. He began to search for them in the crowded
shopping centre. He could not find them. He started to cry.
Lost in the Crowd
A security guard spotted Alex and asked him what was wrong with him.
Realising that the little boy was lost, the security guard took him to the
information counter. He made an announcement oer the public address system.
A few minutes later, Alex’s parents turned up at the counter. At last, Alex was
reunited with his parents.
