GROUP 4: CONVERSATION SCRIPT

Course: BSIT and BSHM School Year: 2023 – 2024

Participants: Anyone from the household.
Theme: "Know Your Options, Plan Your Future: A Household Conversation on Family
Planning."

(Starts with asking permissions and introducing ourselves and the purpose of the
conversation)
Member 1: Good morning, everyone. I am ________, one of the speakers for this
conversation. I am excited to have you all here to explore the various family planning
methods available to us. Our theme for today is "Know Your Options, Plan Your Future:
A Household Conversation on Family Planning." Our objectives are to increase your
knowledge and awareness about family planning options, empower you to make
informed choices about your reproductive health and family planning, reduce stigma
and misconceptions surrounding family planning, and promote open communication and
dialogue about family planning within your household.
Member 2: Before we begin, we would like to have your full cooperation in this
conversation and ensure that we respect each other’s opinions, and maintain a positive
and open-minded attitude. We want to create a safe and inclusive space for open
dialogue, where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and concerns.
Member 3: To help us get to know each other better, please take a moment to share
something that you hope to learn from today's conversation or an experience you have
had related to family planning.
(Handing out brochures as a reference for the presentation)
Member 4: Today, I'll be sharing some valuable information about family planning
methods. I'll cover different types of methods, their effectiveness, potential side effects,
and factors to consider when selecting a method, especially focusing on affordability.
Family planning methods can be broadly categorized into natural, hormonal, and barrier
methods.
1. Natural Methods: These methods involve tracking your menstrual cycle to
predict ovulation and avoid or achieve pregnancy. Examples include the rhythm
method, basal body temperature method, and cervical mucus method. While

these methods are free, they require careful tracking and have lower
effectiveness rates compared to other methods.

2. Hormonal Methods: These methods use hormones to prevent ovulation, thicken

cervical mucus, or thin the lining of the uterus. Examples include the pill, patch,
ring, injection, and implant. These methods are highly effective but may have
side effects like irregular periods, mood changes, or weight gain. Hormonal
methods can be cost-effective, but ongoing costs should be considered.
3. Barrier Methods: These methods physically block sperm from reaching the egg.
Examples include condoms, diaphragms, and cervical caps. Condoms are the
only method that provides protection against sexually transmitted infections
(STIs). Barrier methods are generally affordable and have few side effects, but
they may interrupt intimacy and have lower effectiveness rates compared to
hormonal methods.
When selecting a family planning method, consider the following factors:
 Effectiveness: Different methods have varying effectiveness rates. Long-acting
reversible contraceptives (LARCs) like implants and intrauterine devices (IUDs)
are the most effective.
 Side Effects: Each method has potential side effects. Discuss these with your
healthcare provider to find a method that suits your needs.
 Cost: Consider both upfront and ongoing costs. Some methods, like LARCs,
have higher upfront costs but are more cost-effective in the long run.
 Ease of Use: Some methods require daily, weekly, or monthly attention, while
others are long-acting and require less maintenance.
 Reversibility: If you plan to become pregnant in the future, consider methods
that are easily reversible.
 Personal Preferences: Your values, beliefs, and lifestyle should guide your
choice.
In conclusion, there are various family planning methods available, each with its own
advantages and considerations. By understanding these factors and discussing them
with your healthcare provider, you can make an informed decision that aligns with your
reproductive goals and financial situation.
Member 4: We will be having an interactive Q&A session, where you can ask questions
and seek clarification on family planning topics, ensuring that cost-effective options are
thoroughly discussed. Feel free to ask questions anyone from the group members here
today.

Member 5: Based on what my co-member presented earlier, we will brainstorm and

identify individual and collective action steps to promote affordable and informed family
planning choices. Kindly refer to the brochure we handed out earlier. We provided
information related to affordable family planning services, empowering you to take
practical steps towards your reproductive health goals without financial strain.
I will be asking some questions, but don’t worry, it’s not a hard question. Just an easy
one that is related to the current status of your family. If you are uncomfortable with the
question, you can ask me to pass that question.
1. Do you feel comfortable discussing family planning with healthcare providers and
community members?
2. Are you open to learning about and exploring different family planning methods
to find the best fit for your needs and values?
3. Are you currently using any family planning method? If so, which one?
4. Have you ever discussed family planning with a healthcare provider? If not, why?
5. What are your primary concerns or questions about family planning, particularly
in terms of affordability?
6. Have you encountered any barriers in accessing affordable family planning
information and services within your community?
7. How do you communicate about family planning with your partner or other
household members?
8. What factors are most important to you when selecting a family planning method
(effectiveness, side effects, cost, ease of use, reversibility, etc.)?
I think that’s all the questions I have. Rest assured that what we discussed here
remains here only. We are committed to providing every family member information
related to family planning method.
(Closing remarks)
Member 1: In closing, I would like to express my gratitude to all of you for your
contributions to today's conversation. I hope that you have gained valuable insights and
feel empowered to make informed decisions about your reproductive futures while
considering affordability and accessibility factors. Together, we can create a household
where individuals feel empowered to make informed choices about their family planning,
thus contributing to a brighter future for your family and your shared community.
Thank you, everyone and have a great day!
