Bollywood is remaking almost all hit south Indian movies these days, but once Superstar Rajinikanth was the
real king of remakes, at the initial stage of his career he worked in many remakes of superhit movies of
Amitabh Bachchan and many other Hindi movies.
No Doubt, Superstar Rajinikanth has more fans in South India, if you compare with Amitabh Bachchan but
initially he got stardom from the remakes in 80’s and 90’s.
Thee is the remake of Superhit Movie of Amitabh Bachchan Deewar, Deewar is a story of two brothers who
chooses a different path in their life. Thee had the same story as Deewar starring Rajinikanth and Suman.
don as Billa
Billa was the official Remake of Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don, Both films were successful at the box office
and Rajinikanth had gained huge fame from the movie Billa, Later it was remade in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu
Starring Shahrukh Khan (Hindi), Ajith Kumar (Tamil) and Prabas (Telugu).
Padikathavan was the official Remake of Khud-daar directed by Rajasekhar, Rajinikanth and Sivaji Ganesan
were in the lead roles.
Maarveeran is the remake of Superhit Film Mard but it was not that much successful as Hindi version.
Maaveran opens in early 20th century, when India was under British Rule. It’s a story of a Horse cart driver.
Majboor was an Indian Hindi crime-thriller film remade in Tamil as Naan Vazavaipen starring Rajinikanth and
Sivaji Ganesan in lead roles.
Khoon Pasina is a crime action thriller movie of Amitabh Bachchan remade in Tamil as Siva starring
Rajinikanth and Raghuvaran in lead roles. Siva had got mixed reviews among the audiences and it was an
average grosser at the box office.
Panakkaran (1990) is the remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s film laawaris (1981) and it was a huge hit at the box
office and the performance of Rajinikanth was praised by the audiences and critics.
Ram Robert Rahim is the remake of Amar Akbar Anthony starring Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna & Rishi
Kapoor. Ram Robert Rahim is the story of 3 brothers separated in their childhood and grown in three different
families of Hindu, Muslim and Christian.
Mr.Bharath is the remake of Superhit Bollywood film Trishul Starring Sanjeev Kumar and Amitabh bachchan in
lead roles. In tamil version Rajinikanth is in Amitabh’s role and Satyaraj is in the role of Sanjeev Kumar.
There are some more films remade by Rajinikanth in Tamil language, but can’t include all of them here.

Nagarahavu (kannada) in no way a remake of Baazigar mostly because Nagarahavu was made in the 70s
by Putanna Kanagal who’s known for his original and thought provoking movies

I see Bawarchi on this list. Bawarchi by Hrishikesh Mukherjee is a remake of a bengali film of 1966 called
Golpo Holeo Sotti by Tapan Sinha.

OP kudos for the effort, but you just ended up proving the point that Bollywood has declined post 2010.
That's what everyone, including south director's have been saying that once Bollywood was at the top, but
now it's not. Your list just gives substantial evidence for the same.

Even back then with Malayalam it was largely one way street. Andhadhun getting remade in
Malayalam was a rarity. Mollywood is where all the real novelty and originality originates in Indian
cinema.

No offense, but in that list you provided more than 70% films remade were before 2000s. Back then
remakes were pretty common, Every year Telugu and Tamil industries were remaking each other's films
and Rajnikanth and Sr NTR used to remake Big B's films, It wasn't a huge deal back then as we didn't have
much satellite and social media.
Nowadays South Industries don't remake bollywood films as much as bollywood does our remakes. We
remake Tamil or Malayalam films sometimes but not many Hindi films.
Even in Telugu, Out of our Big 6 actors - 4 of them have never made a Hindi remake, Prabhas did only 1
(Billa) and Pawan Kalyan made quite a few. I also assume it's mostly same with many Tamil actors this
generation and Malayalam also don't remake much anymore.

Even back then Malayalam was the exception. Malayalam movies were largely original and novel.

Remakes worked back then or even a decade back because the content wasn't available in multiple
languages now with ott the barrier is closed. And actors here are just playing along you canLog In remakes
have
in your filmography but can't make your entire filmography consisting remakes. Look at Ajay devgn in
recent times how many remakes has he given back to back, look at jahnvi. No need to get defensive here
op, bollywood movies were remade in south languages and vice versa but the problem is completely
different.

I think people who are blaming Bollywood are blaming the industry of today. It’s kinda sad for an industry
that was a pioneer to fall from its glory and resort to lazy remakes. It’s more out of wanting to see a
change.

Lol. OP. Bollywood lacks good story tellers. This has been a problem for a long time. Bollywood simply
has no ideas unlike South Indian movie industry. People are not willing to waste their money on Bolywood
movies which are garbage, substandard remake or blatant copies of South Indian, Hollywood movies.

These 203 movies are just the tip of the iceberg.😂😂 There are thousands of Bollywood movies “so
called inspired” from other movies Don’t be defensive OP. You have to accept OP, Bollywood has relied on
blatant copying movies for a long time. It’s only in recent years Bollywood has been exposed thanks to
social media.

The criticism about remakes is mostly about current state of bollywood. For example, Salman's rise after
2010 was mostly due to his south indian remakes. And even great star like Amir made such a shitty
remake of forest gump.

Everyone knows it's common. But here we mostly discuss Bollywood, so they get the criticism.
The market has changed. People are now watching South movies. Most of them are free on YouTube, and
remakes may not work at the box office. Then filmmakers blame the audience for not going to the theater.
Audience wants new stories or a really well made remake.
