1.

What is expected from students to acquire/learn after the semester studying the
course Language Program and Policies in Multilingual Education?

Students are expected to actively engage with the policies and activities
in-line with this course. The use of multilingual education methodologies could be
practiced. Adapting the learning methodologies to the diverse cultural languages
in learning institutions is expected to be acquired.

2. Can you cite a policy you’ve learned and tell its implication to our educational
system nowadays if still or now being applied or implemented?

The Philippine Bilingual Education Policy (BEP) is a really functional and

effective way of explaining concepts to learners using the language that suits the
needs of the subjects. This policy divided the subjects with Filipino and English
languages as their respective language means. Students now are able to excel in
both languages. While, teachers could easily explain the concepts.

3. For you, which is more needed in today’s educational situation, bilingualism or

multilingualism? State your reasoning with conviction.

In my perspective, I would like to highlight why multilingualism is highly

relevant and necessary especially in the Philippines. If their local languages will
be added as part of teaching an educational curriculum, the learners will be able
to genuinely learn the lessons and excel in languages they are using. Hence
preserving such language will be easier

4. Create your own scenario where you think, multilingualism can be possibly be
applied. Do you think it will be effective for the learner to learn and master his or
her lesson? Justify.

For example, there is an exclusive school dedicated for Mangyan tribe in

Mindoro for elementary education. Many Mangyan people are not able to fluently
speak and understand Filipino or even English. In order for them to fully
understand the lessons, using their language as a medium for mentoring could
be beneficial and functional for them to comprehend the concepts of what is
being taught. Furthermore, they will be able to learn communicating in Filipino
and English as another languages in academics which they could use when they
enter a school with Tagalog people for secondary and tertiary education.

5. How are you going to help in achieving the Millennium Development Goals
(MDG) taking into consideration the role of language in the new normal situation
in our educational system?

Language will affect the achievement of efficient education for learners to

realize their potential in contributing to the achievement of MDG such as having
proper knowledge about proper implementation of gender equality, reproductive
healthcare, child protection policies, and other related aspects. In order to
achieve these, learners and educators may actively engage and participate in
national and international web forums accompanied by their multilingual skills to
communicate with people who share the same principle in achieving the MDG.
