1. Determine the cardinality of the following sets:

a. 𝐴 = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
Answer : n(A) = 5 element in set
b. 𝐵 = {𝑎, 𝑏, 𝑐, 𝑑, 𝑒, 𝑓, 𝑔}
Answer: n(B) = 7 element in set
c. 𝐶 = {𝑥|1 < 𝑥 ≤ 5, 𝑥 ∈ 𝑁}
Answer : C = {2, 3, 4, 5}
n(C) = 4 element in set
d. 𝐷 = {∅}
Answer : n(D) = 0

2. In a survey of 200 people, 120 said their favorite hobby is reading, 80 said their favorite
hobby is painting, and 40 people enjoy both reading and painting. How many people have
a favorite hobby that is not reading or painting?
Answer: let reading = A; painting = B; both painting and reading = A n B
Question = people are not hobby on painting or reading(A u B)c ?
Solving :
U = 200 A = 120
B = 80 A n B= 40
So A u B = n(A)+n(B) - A n B
= 120 + 80 – 40
= 160
(A u B)c = U - A u B
= 200 – 160
= 40
So there is 40 people of 200 surveyed , that not have favorite hobby on reading
or painting.
