Good day, students! This is a Preliminary Writing Activity for our concept on Research Ethics.

This aims
to introduce to you the fundamental concepts of Research Ethics through video content analysis. For
this activity, you shall do the following:

1. Visit this page: https://notes.ethicists.org/harms-wrongs . This contains video clips of the


greatest breakthroughs in modern science, yet are considered to be the most controversial
research endeavors ever attempted and conducted in the world.
2. Browse through all the video clips in the page and take note of the important points discussed in
the video.
3. Among the videos presented in the page, kindly choose only one (1) and prepare a video clip
review and reaction paper with your chosen video clip focusing on the ethical issues that each of
the research project faced in its course of completion.
4. Reaction Paper requires closed understanding of the material you are reacting to. It requires you
to formulate analysis and reaction to a given body of material such as readings, lectures or
videos which purpose is to focus your thinking on a topic after a close examination of the source
material. It goes beyond the literal context of the text, requiring that you bring to the text
meaning not explicitly stated, to elaborate on or explore the implications of the author’s ideas.
5. In doing your reaction paper, please be guided by the following:
a. Introduce the video that you chose and provide a synthesis of its contents.
b. What are the ethical issues presented in the video clip? Characterize concretely how
these issues were committed.
c. How are these ethical issues resolved? Was it “successful”? Is the solution
commensurate to the risks and harms that the research process had to its participants?
d. What could have been done to avoid ethical issues relative to the conduct of the
research process?
e. How did this particular event change the landscape of global health research?
f. Is it ever justified to inflict harm or pain for the sake of a “better” outcome?
6. Kindly take note of the following format:
a. Short-size bond paper (8.5” x 11.0”)
b. Font-style: Tahoma
c. Font-size: 11
d. For header: BOLD; for text: Normal
e. Spacing: 1.15
f. Alignment: Justified
g. Indent the start of each paragraph
7. Provide a title for your Reaction Paper. The title should somehow give an idea of how the paper
is written and presented.
8. You will be given one week to complete the task. The deadline is set on this thread.
9. Submit your entries on a pdf format with file name:
