SCHOOL HEALTH PROJECT

INTRODUCTION

School
School is defined as an educational institution where groups of pupils pursue defined studies at
defined levels, receive instruction from one or more teachers, frequently interact with other
officers and employee such as principal, various supervisor instructors, maintenance staff etc,
usually housed in a single building.

School Health
School health refers to a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well being and
not merely the absence of disease or infirmity among pupils, teachers and other school personnel.

We were posted for school health for 3 weeks period. During our posting we appraised the health
states of school children (standard 1-5) by checking their height, weight, middle arm
circumference and visual activity.

Objectives Of School Health Posting
1. Create consciousness related to health among school children, their parents and teachers.
2. To assess the basic parameters of health of children i.e. height, weight, mid arm
circumference, visual acuity.
3. To impart health information and conduct health education on various aspects of
healthful living in school, home and community

RESULTS

 Total no. Of children found with vision in need of diagnostic test - 11

TREATMENT PROVIDED

The children with need for diagnostic test were taken to the Eye department, Christian Medical
College & Hospital, Ludhiana, were they were further evaluated. A total of 11 children along
with their parents were taken to the hospital, two children Lakshmi and Rani of class fifth and
second respectively, were found to have poor vision and were provided with spectacles. Saroj of
class was found to have retinal detachment and was referred to PGI, Chandigarh for further
treatment.
