Florida State
University upgrades
its legacy access
control system
with IDEMIA’s
MorphoWave™
XP devices
FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY

Florida State University (FSU) is

a longstanding partner of IDEMIA.
Our successful collaboration
started almost ten years ago,
when IDEMIA acquired the
company that originally provided
FSU’s biometric access control
system for its athletics division.

Needs and challenges

Until recently, FSU used the legacy L1
4G contact fingerprint reader. However,
this reader had reached the end of its
life and needed to be upgraded to a
cutting-edge device. Furthermore, L1
4G was not very effective on wet, dry,
and damaged fingers. Employees,
students, and teachers would often
have to use a card reader to gain access
to restricted areas instead.

The goal for FSU was to implement

a contactless biometric device that
would allow faster, securer, and barrier-
free biometric authentication. Not only
would this reinforce campus security
but it would also mitigate any health
concerns, for example, in the context of
a future global health crisis.

The solution
IDEMIA presented FSU with
MorphoWave™ XP, and the university
was eager to try it out. The pilot was
introduced in October 2021. FSU
was particularly impressed that the
biometric reader worked seamlessly
with C•CURE, the existing access
control software, avoiding a costly
software upgrade.

By January 2022, FSU had already

placed an order for 14 devices.
Delivering on its promise of an optimal
customer experience, IDEMIA supplied
and installed the devices by June
2022―ready for use by the 364 (and
growing) authorized users.

Results
Enrolling people is quick and efficient,
and FSU is fully satisfied with the
integration of MorphoWave™. Users
can gain access with ease and, unlike
the legacy system, all fingerprints are
verified with a quick wave of the hand.

FSU has ordered an additional 42

MorphoWave™ XP devices for its new
football campus, which is currently
being built and is set to open its doors
at the end of 2024

Customer quote
“We are very happy with IDEMIA’s MorphoWave™ XP devices. They are efficient,
secure, and contactless, which gives us peace of mind. It is reassuring to know that
only authorized people can access restricted areas. IDEMIA delivered and installed
the devices in record time, making the transition from the previous system that much
easier. We have ordered 42 MorphoWave™ devices for the Football Operations Facility
and look forward to partnering with IDEMIA again in the future.”

MorphoWaveTM XP
IDEMIA’s MorphoWave™ is a contactless fingerprint solution that
scans and verifies four fingerprints in less than one second with a
fully touchless hand wave gesture.

Embedded with IDEMIA’s latest advances in AI, the ergonomic

biometric reader works efficiently with wet, dry, dirty, or even
damaged fingers. In addition, the MorphoWave™ card reader is
capable of scanning printed QR codes for visitor management.

The MorphoWave™ technology has become the benchmark in

frictionless access control, with over 15,000 units in use around
the world. This advanced fingerprint solution secures high traffic
access points in some of the largest financial institutions, critical
infrastructure facilities, universities, and healthcare organizations.
