GARDEL IN HIS MONUMENTS

The number of monuments that have been dedicated to the greatest singer of all time is truly impressive. Hence the
idea of ​this blog is to try to go through them, spread throughout various cities around the world.

Concordia” , located at 749 Uruguay Street, in the city of Salto, where the beloved singer stayed
on October 23 and 24, 1933.

CORRESPONDENCE

It seems strange to me that Gardel drank five whiskeys by himself, even more so, having
ordered an "Alegresa" wine, which leads me to assume that he only drank one whiskey, inviting
the guitarists with the remaining four, qualifying the rehearsal of the songs to the presentation at
the “Ariel” cinema-theater.

Gardel and Pettorossi were the only ones who drank “Salus” mineral water, while Gardel, Vivas
and Riverol drank “Alegresa” wine. Pettorossi instead opted for a more expensive French wine,
exactly double the value, since $070 was paid for the first one, equivalent to the average
“Chateau La Four”. Barbieri was the only one who didn't drink.

Vivas, Riverol and Barbieri asked for a “complete”, while Gardel and Pettorossi preferred to take
care of the line.

Vivas turned out to be the biggest smoker of the guitarists, purchasing four $0.40 packs, doubling
Barbieri who ordered two of the same price, while Riverol only ordered an economical $0.18
pack. Gardel, a big smoker, did not order cigarettes, I suppose because he had his own packs
with him.

► Gardel's performance on radio “CW 27 Boulevard Broadcasting”, on October 24, 1933,

writing, “With great sympathy”, signing and dating the dedication, which was followed by
presentations by other artists such as Luis Sandrini and Libertad Lamarque , the latter in
December of the same year.

Founded in 1928, the radio station, then owned by Ernesto Popelka Martínez, was located at the
current 2320 Batlle Avenue, being sold in 1939 to Luis Batlle Berres, renamed “CW 27 Radio
Tabaré” and operating to the present, with headquarters in 1416 Uruguay Street.

This radio presentation would be the second station that Gardel performed in Uruguay and the
only one in the interior of the country, following the remembered presentation on October 6, 1933
