GRANADA

Granada is truly one of the treasures of Spain and is one of the

most visited places by tourists from around the world.
Formerly the capital of Al Andalus, it offers us one of the most
important reminders of this period of Spanish history thanks in
great part to its world-famous Alhambra.

The province of Granada which is a treat for any tourist, affords

visitors the opportunity to hit the slopes in the Sierra Nevada,
explore the secluded villages of the La Alpujarra, travel along
the western border of Granada, or spend the night in the
caverns which commemorate the way of life of cavemen.

It is a land of mild and warm winters which is ideal for enjoying

snowsports. It is located on the Mediterranean coast and in
the heart of the Penibética mountain range. To the west it
borders the provinces of Málaga and Córdoba, to the north
Jaén, to the east Almería and to the south the Mediterranean
Sea.

ESTEPONA FISHING PORT (VARADERO, LONJA AND FARO)

A beautiful window onto the Mediterranean, Estepona has

always been linked to fishing. A visit to the fishing port allows
you to view this first-hand as it is still one of the mainstays of
the local economy. As early as 6 in the morning fishing boats
that set off at dusk begin their return with the night’s catch.
They make their way to the fish market where the sale begins.
In the late afternoon, between 17:30 and 20:00, the auction of
the catch brought in by the trawlers and anglers that left at
daybreak commences.

FRIGILIANA

Frigiliana is said to be one of the most beautiful villages of

Andalucía. The proximity of the Caves of Nerja, where the
Paleolithic presence is clear, makes us think that Frigiliana
should have also been inhabited during this period, although
the archaeological studies realized until now only testify
human presence during the Neolithic end (3.000 years BC) and
in the Bronze and Iron Ages. In fact, some important
excavations carried out in “Cerrilo de las sombras” showed a
necropolis of an indigenous Iberian population of the Iron Age,
whose findings, partly Phoenician, are exhibited in the
Archaeological Museum of Frigiliana.

After the Roman era, it was controlled by the Arab civilization

which invaded the peninsula during the VIII century AD. After
that, the village was kept under Muslim protection until its
conquest by order of the Catholic Monarchs in 1.485.

was the most dominant and influential artist of the first half of
the twentieth century. Associated most of all with pioneering
Cubism, he also invented collage and made major
contributions to Symbolism and Surrealism. He saw himself
above all as a painter, yet his sculpture was greatly influential,

MOSQUE OF CÓRDOBA

The Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba is the most important

monument of all the Western Islamic world, and one of the
most amazing in the world. The evolution of the “Omeya” style
in Spain is resumed in the history of the Mosque of Cordoba,
as well as other styles such as the Gothic, Renaissance and
Baroque of the Christian architecture.

It seems as if the place that the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba

occupies nowadays was dedicated, from ancient times, to the
cult of different divinities. In this same place, and during the
Visigoth occupation, another building was constructed, the
“San Vicente” Basilic. On top of this Basilic and after paying half
of the site, the primitive Mosque was constructed. This Basilic,
of rectangular shape, was shared for a period of time between
Muslims and Christians. After the Muslim enlargement, the
Basilic became property of Abderraman I, who destroyed it to
construct the first “Mosque Alhama” or main Mosque of the
city. Nowadays, some of the constructive elements of the
Visigoth building are integrated in the first part of Abderraman
I.
