25 Years of Schlagwerk Percussion
The idea of perfecting traditional instruments through innovation and precise, handcrafted
production is the central theme of the company history of Schlagwerk Percussion.
We take advantage of the experience which we have accumulated over the last 25 years
when developing our new products.
It is with great pride that we present the 2inOne deluxe and dual Cajones as well as the
new Bass Cajones for the first time in our main programme 07/08. We especially wish to point
out our Booster Set, the first percussive drumset “made in Germany”.

This is exactly what is reflected in our catalogue: our vast experience has led to the
manufacture of mature instruments as well as polished and convincing new developments.

The Schlagwerk Riqq, based on the Arabian riqq, is a
tunable frame drum that provides a great variety of sound
and glissando possibilities due to its special jingle combination.
The two gaps in the frame guarantee a firm grip and optimal
handling of the riqq. Materials: The frame is made of 6-ply
glued Beechwood, frame height 62 mm, goat skin, Ø 25 cm
with 10 (!) tuning screws integrated into the frame.

with a natural skin head. Because of the light-weight construction:

it‘s especially good for use in Drum Circles or playing for a long time with one hand!
The multi-ply Beechwood frame is covered with a tensioned, sturdy goat skin.

Inspired by the original African Udu, our new designs and

developments have resulted in a wide range of models.

The origin of the Udu® drums lies in Members of the Hausa and Ibo tribes discovered
the wonderful sound of these earthenware instruments with two openings.

Udu means “clay pot” in the language of the Ibos. Originally from Africa,
the Udu can also be found in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Having made the leap into western music culture, Schlagwerk Udus belong to the
basics of every percussionist as sound-effect and rhythm instruments. They are played by rhythmically

25 years ago Schlagwerk Percussion was born (at the time mo-
destly known as Schlagwerk Klangobjekte). Gerhard Priel and
Bengt Schumacher put all of their energy and enthusiasm into this
new business which specialised in the manufacture and develop-
ment of wooden percussion instruments.
In the first few years, the focus was on the manufacture of professi-
onal Log Drums. It was a novelty in the therapeutic and educatio-
nal fields, the first target group of the young company. However,
active musicians quickly became interested in this high-quality
instrument. In the following years, we expanded our range to in-
clude Frame Drums, Udu® Drums, small percussion and Cajones.
In 1986, we laid the foundation for the most successful percussion
instrument in recent years with the introduction of the first Schlag-
werk Cajon. In the early 90s, the Cajon la Perù® set the standard for
sound and quality of the modern Cajon. This resulted in increasing
international recognition for Schlagwerk Percussion.
