Speaking 3er trimestre

Sara (delegación del gobierno): Today we are gathered here to discuss the following topics:
firstly, do you appreciate getting advice or do you like to solve things independently?, in the
second place if is it good idea to take a gap year after finishing school in order to travel and
see the world?, and in the thirst place if exams are a good way to asset what students have
learned.
Yehudith ( ministra de educación): If you allow me I would like to give my point of view. I
think that schools and about all high schools should remove the exams because they can’t
prove the effort of the students because they could be nervous or they could have anxiety
and that provokes that the students make mistakes and lower the grade thus preventing
them from showing their ability as students.
Yenia (directora de instituto): As a director, I think that exams are the best way to check
that students are making an effort. If the students don’t have the pressure of a test that
scores them, they are not going to make an effort and they don’t learn anything.
Elias (estudiante): Well, I think that exams are not the best way to define the intelligence
and learning level of students, I think that it could be better evaluated through individual
projects or especially in groups since these prepare you for the future working life of the
students.
Yenia: I think that this would not be feasible since there would be students who would do
nothing and others who would work twice as hard, so the grades would not be correct or
fair.

Sara: Ok, ok keep calm, let there be tranquility.

Yehudith: I believe that this could be discussed in the ministry and provide a feasible
solution for the institutes.
Sara: exactly the people in charge of education in the government will have to discuss it first
and then we will hold a meeting to inform all students.
Yehudith: Another point that I want to discuss is if the students should take a gap year after
finishing schools. I think if the government should give some money to the students to
spend in this travel.
Sara: As a government representative, I believe it's important to acknowledge that each
individual has different needs and aspirations. Traveling and experiencing different cultures
can enrich the lives of young people, offering global perspectives and promoting tolerance
and intercultural understanding.
Elias: As a student, I think taking a gap year after finishing school can be an incredibly
enriching experience. Traveling and immersing oneself in different cultures can provide
learnings that go beyond what can be taught in a classroom. Additionally, it can help young
people discover their passions and interests before committing to a career or university
program. However, I also recognize the importance of planning ahead and considering how
this decision may affect my academic and professional future.
Yenia: However, we must also consider how this break in education may impact the
continuity of studies and transition to the workforce. Therefore, it's crucial to balance the
desire to explore the world with the need for planning and preparation for the future.
Taking a year off also delays studies and can cause students to lose the desire to study a
career.
Yehudith: that’s true but to know if take a gap year is beneficial or harmful we have to
evaluate the pros and cos. It’s true that a gap year could make that you have just told but
also it can provide you with work experience which gives you special skills, it also allows you
to participate in volunteer work that enriches you as a person. Added to all this is
guaranteeing the mental health and well-being that may have been affected during the last
years of school.
Elias: I completely agree with you, you couldn't have said better what we students think.
Sara: In addition with what the minister has told I believe that a gap year make students
learn how to do everything for themselves since at highschooll are given lot of help to the
students and in the real life they have to worry about going things alone.
Elias: As a student I don’t think that we have lot of help, I think we have the necessary
because we are very busy studying and we don’t have time enough to do everything without
help. I wish we had time enough to do everything, study and have free time.
Yenia: Well, as a director, I think that the students have a poor organization of time and
spend most of it with video games and social networks, so they should receive less help so,
as our government delegate says, they learn to do it on their own because in the future no
one is going to help them.
Yehudith: I don’t agree with you I think that the student is right but also is true that in the
future they will do everything without help so I think that a solution for this problem is to
have a class for one hour a week in which they teach how to prepare all the papers and
documents necessary in the future.
