Chapter 1, 2, and 3 combined questions

1. What is a cell?

Ans. A cell is the basic building blocks of life. The human body is composed of trillions of
cells.

2. What are plant organs? Choose one and describe.

Ans. There are 3 plant organs, root, stem and leaf. The leaf organ is the producer of foods in
the whole plant. They take in water, carbon dioxide and the sunlight to make sugar for the
plant.

3. What are the ideas of cell theory?

Ans. Cell is the basic unit of life

An organism can be as simple as one cell (unicelleur) or multiple cells (multicelleur)

All cells are created from pre exiting cells in a process called cell division.

4. Name all the animal specialized cells.

Ans. All of the animal specialized cells are human skin cells, human bone cells, human
muscle cells, human nerve cells, human brain cells and human fat cells.

5. Do you think that multicellular organisms could function without specialized cells?
Explain your reasoning.

Ans. Specialized cells are called specialized for a reason. For example if we didn’t have the
skin cells then our body would be exposed. The skin also helps protect our body. Without
the skin cells our body would very well be dead.

6. What systems are responsible for breathing?

Ans. The respiratory system is responsible for breathing. The term we use for breathing is
called respiration. The lungs are the most important organ in breathing/respiration.

7. What are the 3 types of plant tissues and describe them.

Ans. There are 3 types of plant tissues, protective tissues, photosynthetic tissues, and
transport tissues.
Protective tissue forms a covering on most plants. This covering helps prevent water loss
and protects the plant. Photosynthetic tissues use the nutrients, sunlight and co2 to make
sugar in a process called photosynthesis. Transports tissues contain hallow tube like cells
that move nutrients in and out of the plant.

8. What are connective tissues?

Ans. Connective tissue is a type of tissue that supports and connects different parts of the
body. Blood is a type of connective tissue. Fat, cartilage, tendons, and bones are also
connective tissues.

9. What is the difference between permeable and impermeable membrane.

Ans. A permeable membrane allows things in. for example in a rainy day if you wear a
cotton dress then you would get wet. This is because the water particles are smaller than
the holes in the cotton dress. On the other hand a impermeable membrane allows nothing
in. for example plastic is a impermeable membrane.

10. A______________Organism has only one cell.

Ans. A unicellular organism has only one cell. It means that it performs all takes that
multicellular organisms perform but in a single cells. Some types of unicellular organisms
are ameba.

11. What is the function of mitochondria?

Ans. Mitochondria is often known as the powerhouse of the cell because there main
function is to produce energy in a form of ATP through cellular respiration.

12. Bacteria are….

Ans. Bacteria are Prokaryotic cells because they lack a nucleus and other membrane bound
organelles. Prokaryotic cells are generally smaller and much simpler in stricter compared to
Eukaryotic cells.

13. __________ is the diffusion of water particles through a selectively permeable

membrane.

Ans. The diffusion of water particles through a selectively permeable membrane is called
osmosis. Osmosis is a specify type of diffusion that involves the movement of water
particles from a higher concentration to lower concentration.
14. Cells extract energy from there food by the means of_____.

Ans. Cells extract energy from there food through cellular respiration. This process involves
breaking down glucose molecules in the presence of oxygen to produce ATP, which is the
main energy currency of the cells.

15. Which system is the heart in.

The heart is in the circulatory system. It is responsible for pumping blood throughout the
body, delivering oxygen and nutrients to cells, and removing waste products.

16. What are the smallest blood vessels called?

Ans. Capillaries are the smallest bloods vessel on the body. They are responsible for
respiration, exchange of nutrients and waste products.

17. What blood vessels tale blood away from the heart after oxygen is added?

Ans. Arteries is the blood vessels that carry deoxygenated blood away from the heart to the
rest of the body.

18. What is the name of the muscle that you use while breathing properly called.

Ans. Diaphragm is the correct answered because it is the main muscle for berating properly.
It is a dome shaped muscle located beneath the lungs hat contracts and retracts to control
breathing.

19. Where does digestion start?

Ans. Digestion starts in the mouth, these is where the process of breaking down food start.
