EXERCISES ON CHEMICAL EQUILIBRIA

DIRECTIONS: SOLVE THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS BELOW. PROVIDE A COMPLETE

SOLUTION/S FOR EACH OF THE PROBLEM.

Problem 1:
A solution is prepared by mixing 50.0 mL of 0.100 M NaHCO3 and 50.0 mL of 0.100 M
H2SO4. Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction that occurs. What is the
pH of the resulting solution?

Problem 2:
The equilibrium constant for the reaction A + B ⇌ C + D is 4.0 at 25°C. If the initial
concentrations of A and B are both 0.100 M, what are the equilibrium concentrations
of all four species?

Problem 3:
A mixture of H2, I2, and HI is initially at equilibrium in a 1.00 L container at 448°C. The
equilibrium concentrations are [H2] = 0.200 M, [I2] = 0.100 M, and [HI] = 0.400 M. If 0.500
moles of I2 is added to the container, what will be the new equilibrium concentrations
of all three species?

Problem 4:
A solution of FeCl3 is prepared by dissolving 20.0 g of FeCl3 in 100.0 mL of water. The
solution is then diluted to 500.0 mL with water. What is the concentration of Fe3+ ions
in the resulting solution?

Problem 5:
A solution of NH4Cl is prepared by dissolving 10.0 g of NH4Cl in 100.0 mL of water. The
solution is then diluted to 500.0 mL with water. What is the pH of the resulting solution?
