COURSE OVERVIEW
Different types of paragraphs will be introduced, compared and
practiced on. In particular, descriptive, process, opinion and
narrative paragraphs will be emphasized. In addition, students will
particularly practice argumentation and persuasion strategies,
comparing and contrasting along with discussing techniques in
writing.
Furthermore, modern and postmodern techniques of writing
including how technology has influenced writing, writing and
identity and writing and culture will preferably be touched on.
Students will be constantly reminded that writing is a continuous
process of rewriting and redrafting and that is what most good
writers actually do. They should also be taught to avoid bad writing
habits/techniques such as verbosity, repetition, vagueness and
rambling through a text. Punctuation as an important part of the
mechanics of writing will continuously be emphasized throughout
the course.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
 Be regular and in time for the lectures. The class starts
at 11:00 a.m., so you should be in college 15 minutes
earlier than 11:00 a.m.
 80% attendance is required to sit for the Final Exam.
 As per instructions all Exams will be conducted in
college so, no excuses of headache, stomach ache etc.
will be entertained especially during Quiz and Mid-
Terms.
 There will be NO RE-Test for Quiz or Mid-Term except
for cases of emergency i.e. surgery, death of a relative,
marriage or delivery.
 Application/excuse should be approved by the
coordinator and HOD.

 There will be 10 marks bi-weekly quiz


before start of new lecture/topic.
Aggregate of these quizzes will be taken
for final exam.
All students should participate in class
discussion, discussion boards and other
activities etc.
 You should have your textbook and
notebook with you once you come/sit for
the online class.

hand written except for the assignments on
discussion board.
Submit your assignments in time. Late
submissions will not be entertained and no
marks will be awarded if assignment is
submitted 1 week late.
NOTE: Mid-Term I and II will be taken in
week 6 and 9/10 respectively.

Different languages organize their ideas
differently.
In English, organization means dividing your
ideas into groups and putting them in a
logical order. Before you begin to write and
while you are writing, you will need to
organize your ideas.

Weekly Writing Task:

Write a paragraph about yourself, discuss your


likes and dislikes, your ambition in life, What
do you want to do for your family and for your
country. Give a title to your paragraph e.g. All
about Me.
