AIM : Internal flow simulation of flow through a Converging diverging nozzle.

OBJECTIVE: Perform internal flow simulation of flow through a Converging diverging nozzle using ANSYS

fluent.

SOFTWARE USED : ANSYS 18.1

PROCEDURE:

Step 1: Click on the Start Menu, and then select Workbench.

Step 2: Double click on FluidFlow (FLUENT).

Step 3: Right click on geometry and select New design modeler geometry.

Step 4: Draw the above figure in XY plane with throat at y axis.

Step 5: Go to Concept > Surfaces From Sketches, select the sketch by left clicking on Sketch1 in

the Tree Outline and hit Apply.

Step 6: Click Generate. This will create a surface.

Step 7: Now close the New Design Modeler and open Mesh.

Step 8: DO the face split of the figure and divide it into 4 faces with origin as common point.

Step 9: Now Create Named Selection as inlet, outlet and walls.

Step 10: Select an edge then, right click on Mesh then select Insert > Sizing.
Step 11: Give number of divisions as required in Edge Sizing Dialogue box, and then clicks on Generate Mesh.

Step 12: Repeat the above process on all the edges.

Step 13: Enter “.0001”m for Element Size. Choose the second Bias Type from the drop down menu.

Step 14: Now click on Generate Mesh.

Step 15: Go back to workbench and update project.

Step 16: Now open setup and fill the required boundary conditions as mentioned above in the table.

Step 17: Select Reference Values. Change the Compute From parameter to inlet.

Step 18: Go to Solution < Solution Initialization. Switch to Standard Initialization and click Initialize.

Step 19: Solution < Run Calculation. Change Number of Iterations to 500 and click Calculate.

Step 20: Once the solution converges, click OK.

Step 21: Now open Results. Create a contour and observe the Pressure, Temperature, Mach number, Density,
Velocity change along the length of the pipe.

RESULTS
