FUN FACT:
Did you know?
Earth is 4,543,000,000 years old.
Earth is 4.543 billion years old.

Which is easier to read?

Which is the correct way of writing it?
Do you see how reading numbers a certain
way makes them easier to understand?

That’s why all the mathematicians in the world

decided to agree on some rules on writing
mathematical concepts so that it is convenient
for everyone to read, write, and work with.

This particular way is called the

Standard Notation.
WHAT IS STANDARD
NOTATION?
A standard notation is a form of
writing a given number, an
equation, or an expression in a
form that follows certain rules.
WHAT IS STANDARD
NOTATION?
All of the things you see in math, like numbers or
fractions or equations or expressions, have a
standard form defined for them.
We can think of the standard notation as the
most common way of representing a mathematical element.

EXPONENTIAL
NOTATION
WHAT IS AN
EXPONENTIAL NOTATION?
A exponential notation is an alternative
method of expressing numbers.
Exponential notation take the form 𝒂 ,𝒏

where a is multiplied by itself n times .

WHAT IS
SCIENTIFIC NOTATION?
A scientific notation is a way of writing very large
or very small numbers.
This format expresses a number as a value between
1.0 and 10.0 multiplied by a power of ten.
