B5. Model Answer : I would prefer reading a book. I like to imagine what is happening
in the story. When a film is based on a book, there are many changes made in it for
the sake of selling the film. This spoils the story line. Besides, I can read the book
alone again and again, whenever I wish to. I cannot do that for a film.

A2. If God had gifted human beings with ‘Rest’, they would never have cared to remember
God since they would have nothing to long for or to feel restless about. This is because
self-satisfaction and contentment would have made human beings feel complete and
pleased with themselves. They might thus lose their spiritual and moral values.
A3. Inversion : The correct prose order is : So both should be losers.

Q. 3. (B) Appreciation :
The poem ‘Night of the Scorpion’ is written by Nissim Ezekiel. The poem is written in
free verse without any rhyme scheme or metre. There are many figures of speech e.g.
Onomatopoeia like ‘and buzzed the name of God a hundred times’. Here, we feel we
can actually hear the buzzing of the prayers of the many peasants. The other figures
of speech are Metaphor, Alliteration, Simile, Antithesis, etc.
The theme of the poem is the sense of sacrifice shown by a devoted mother. Even
as she suffers the pangs of a scorpion-bite, she thanks God for sparing her children
from such an ordeal.

Model Answer : When we face hardships, we work very hard to overcome these

later on in life.
Q. 4. (B) Summary :
Hard Work is the Key to Success
   Hanmant Gaikwad, who was born in Koregaon in Satara district, faced a lot of
hardships in his childhood. The family shifted to Pune when he was in class six.
Hanmant was a brilliant student. After completing his diploma, he joined Philips as
a trainee, but was not happy there. He wanted to go for a B.Tech degree. Since this
was outside the family budget, he decided to take up painting jobs to finance his
education. Later, he was attracted towards the writings of Swami Vivekananda and
formed an organization called Bharat Vikas Pratisthan.
