In this text we read about his battle against a storm in the human heart. The Lord came to destroy the work of the devil (1 John 3:8 )
1. A man imprisoned by Satan.
a. He was possessed by a demon ( Eph 2:2 ) b. He used to live among the tombs ( Luke 1:79 ) c. He was out of his mind (crazy ) ( Rom 1:21 ) d. He was in a very poor state ( Rev 3:17; Psa 88 ) e. He used to cut himself with stones ( Mark 5:4-5 ) f. He was a great danger to his neighborhood ( Matt 8:28 ) g. No one could subdue him ( Mark 5:4 )
2. The powerful savior
a. The Lord came to save the lost ( Luke 19:10 ) b. Not by chance - even this poor creature. c. Jesus forgives great and small guilts ( Luke 7:41-42 ) d. He healed the Gerasene with the power of his word in the same way he calmed the storm ( Mark 5:8 )
3. The great change
a. He healed sat at Jesus’ feet. b. He was calmed and dressed ( Mark 5:15; Isa 61:10; Luke 15:22 ) c. He was in his right mind ( Mark 5:15 )
4. A marvelous testimony. The Gerasene became a witness of Jesus Christ. Not
in the same way as his disciples but in his parents’ household, in his neighborhood, where his previous state was well known. His testimony produced many fruits ( Mark 5:20 )
