 Abstract

This study assessed the self-perception of the selected Accountancy, Business and
Management (ABM) students on their academic, social and their emotional college
preparedness. The students’ demographic profile was also tested for significant
difference in the three constructs of the college preparedness. Through a self-made
questionnaire in a 4- scale Likert style, data were gathered from the 255 randomly
selected ABM students of one private higher education institution in Batangas Province
in the Philippines. Self-perception showed a college-prepared student academically,
socially and emotionally. However, there are various constructs of their academic and
social-emotional preparedness that need further improvements. The statistical test of
significance indicated that the various constructs of academic, social and emotional
preparedness have no difference by age, type of school, family income and order of
birth. A significant difference was shown in the respondents’ sex and social
preparedness but not on academic and emotional preparedness. Similarly, there was
significant difference in the various constructs of academic, social and emotional
preparedness in terms of the students’ GWA in high school. For this, high schools
should develop collaborative teaching and learning strategies focus on reading and
writing. In addition, colleges and universities may provide pertinent course information
through their websites to guide the students on the various details of their chosen
undergraduate courses. Indeed, to prepare students for college alone is insufficient; a
college-ready student should complete a degree with a life-ready perspectives

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

INTRODUCTION
ABM or Accountancy Business Management is a senior high school academic track
designed for students who aim to pursue accounting, finance, economics, or business
management in college or in their future careers. This track aims to develop students’
business skills and knowledge through a comprehensive study of accountancy,
business management, economics, entrepreneurship, and other related subjects. With
today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, the ABM track equips students with the
necessary competencies to succeed in the dynamic world of commerce and industry.
Graduates of this track have various career opportunities, including accounting, finance,
human resources, marketing, and management positions in various industries.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The problem with the Power of ABM, particularly in the field of Accountancy Business
Management (ABM), is that students are often overwhelmed with the vast amount of
information required to fully grasp accounting and business concepts. This is
compounded by the fact that accounting and business principles are often interrelated,
making it important for students to understand both fields in order to become effective
professionals in the industry. Additionally, the lack of real-life applications and hands-on
experience in the classroom can make it difficult for students to fully comprehend how to
apply these concepts to actual business scenarios. These challenges can hinder
students' academic performances and their ability to become successful professionals
in the field.
 SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY

SCOPE
The study of The Power of ABM ACCOUNTANCY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT (ABM)
will focus on the various aspects and importance of ABM in today's business world. The
study will aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the different ABM concepts,
theories, and principles, as well as their practical applications in the areas of
accounting, finance, economics, business management, and marketing. The study will
also cover the different ABM strategies and techniques used by businesses and
organizations to maximize profits, minimize costs, and achieve organizational goals and
objectives. This includes financial analysis, budgeting, strategic planning, marketing
research, and risk management.

DELIMITATION
The study of The Power of ABM ACCOUNTANCY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT (ABM)
will focus on the theoretical and practical concepts and principles of ABM in the
business world. The study will not cover any specific industry or sector, but rather seek
to provide a general overview of ABM and its impact on the overall business
environment. The study will also not cover any legal, ethical, or regulatory issues related
to ABM, nor will it delve into any specific accounting or financial reporting standards and
regulations. The study will be limited to a general examination of ABM principles and
strategies and their practical applications in various business contexts.
 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The study of The Power of ABM ACCOUNTANCY BUSSINES MANAGEMENT (ABM)
holds significant importance for several reasons:
1. Career Opportunities: ABM is a popular and in-demand stream that opens up several
career opportunities in the fields of accounting, finance, and management. A
comprehensive understanding of the subject can help students build a successful

 DEFINITION OF TERMS
1. Accountancy - A field of study that involves the process of recording, classifying,
summarizing, and interpreting financial transactions to help businesses and individuals
make informed financial decisions.
2. Business Management - The process of planning, organizing, directing, and
controlling the activities of an organization to achieve specific goals and objectives.
3. ABM - An acronym for Accountancy, Business, and Management, a strand in the
Senior High School curriculum that focuses on developing students' skills in financial
accounting, entrepreneurship, and business management.
4. Financial Accounting - The process of recording, classifying, summarizing, and
interpreting financial transactions to help individuals and organizations make informed
decisions about managing their financial resources.
5. Entrepreneurship - The process of creating a new business or venture, including
identifying opportunities, developing business plans, and securing resources to start
and grow the business.
6. Business Planning - The process of creating a roadmap or blueprint for a business,
including setting goals and objectives, identifying strategies and tactics, and developing
budgets and timelines.
7. Organizational Structure - The way in which a company is organized, including the

 CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

The Power of ABM, or Accountancy Business Management, is a conceptual framework

that describes the multifaceted skills and competencies required of individuals pursuing

THEORICAL FRAMEWORK
The Power of ABM is a theoretical framework that aims to describe the potential impact
and importance of studying Accountancy Business Management (ABM) in the current
business landscape. ABM is a strand in the Senior High School (SHS) curriculum in the
Philippines that primarily focuses on the development and enhancement of various
competencies related to accounting, finance, business management, and
entrepreneurship.
The theoretical framework consists of three main interrelated components: ABM
Education, Business Environment, and Career Opportunities. These components are
interdependent and interactive, with each influencing and shaping the others.

ABM Education is the foundation of the Power of ABM theoretical framework. It pertains
to the formal and informal learning experiences that ABM students acquire throughout
their SHS journey. The ABM curriculum is designed to provide students with a
comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, business
operation, market research, and other critical skills necessary for pursuing a career in
business management and entrepreneurship.

The Business Environment refers to the current economic and social context, including
economic policies, technological advances, global market trends, and social or cultural
changes, among others. The ABM education framework must adapt and respond to the
changing business environment to ensure that students receive up-to-date and relevant
education that can prepare them for the challenges of the modern business world.
Career Opportunities refer to the various job roles and entrepreneurial ventures suited
for ABM graduates. Due to the ABM curriculum's technical and theoretical focus on
business management, ABM graduates can pursue a wide range of career options.
These include accountancy, finance, human resources, marketing, operations
management, supply chain management, and entrepreneurship.
The Power of ABM theoretical framework highlights the significance of studying ABM
and the wide range of skills and knowledge that ABM students acquire. The framework
argues that studying ABM can serve as a pathway for students to secure high-paying

 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Accountancy Business Management (ABM) is a strand that is designed for students
who are interested in pursuing careers in business, accountancy, finance, marketing,
and entrepreneurship. In this section, we will review the related literature that explains
the significance and power of ABM.

According to the Department of Education (DepEd), ABM is a strand that offers a

substantial foundation in accounting, business, and management principles. ABM aims
to help students acquire technical knowledge, entrepreneurial skills, critical thinking,
problem-solving, and decision-making skills, among others. The goal of ABM is to
prepare students for higher education and future careers in the fields of business and
finance.

The study conducted by Gracia and Almanzor (2019), showed that the ABM strand is
becoming more popular among Filipino high school students as it provides a
challenging and practical curriculum that aims to develop the students' capacity to excel
not only in academics but in their future careers as well. Moreover, ABM provides
opportunities for students to experience internships and exposure to various industries,
which is an excellent way to understand the real-world applications of business
management concepts.

The importance of ABM education is also emphasized in a study by Lazaga and Ruiz
(2019), wherein they noted that the ABM strand is a powerful tool for Filipino students in
achieving their goals, especially for those who belong to middle to upper-class families.
The ABM strand offers a variety of job opportunities in the fields of accounting, business
management, financial management, and marketing. Thus, it is an excellent investment
not only for students' education but also for their future job prospects.

In conclusion, ABM education is essential in developing a sufficient technical

foundation, entrepreneurial skills, and real-world experience necessary for future
careers in business and finance. The ABM strand is a powerful tool that provides
students with a wide range of opportunities and critical skills required to succeed in the
business world. As such, ABM is a meaningful investment in Filipino students'
education, opening many avenues for their future success in the business industry.
