Advancement in Biometric Security:

Exploring the Effectiveness of

Fingerprint Lock Scanner
Abstract
Nowadays, a lot of crimes has been recorded in the Philippines and one of the crimes is robbery. One of the reasons of the high percentage of robbery cases
in the Philippines is because of the security system and lack of advancement in biometrics. Advance biometric security place a crucial role in our daily lives it essential to address
privacy concerns and implement strong security measures to protect biometric data from unauthorized access and misuse. That’s why researchers decided to make a finger print
lock scanner.
In making the product, the researchers gathered all the materials needed such as: Arduino uno, R307 fingerprint sensor, 12 volts Solenoid lock, 5 volts Relay module, 12
volts battery and Jump wires. The experiment involved connecting the R307 Fingerprint Sensor to an Arduino Uno, connecting its VCC, GND, TX, RX, and relay modules. The
researchers connected the solenoid lock to a 12V battery, installed the Adafruit Fingerprint Sensor library, and wrote an Arduino code for a fingerprint lock system. Next, the
researchers enrolled and compared stored fingerprints, controlled the relay module for solenoid lock activation, and tested fingerprint recognition. As stated by Zafar B. (2022).
Arduino Uno is an open-source program designed for professionals and students to create devices using sensors. Introduced in 2005, it allows users to experiment with innovative
ideas and can be programmed using the Arduino IDE, offering a simple, easy-to-understand syntax; therefore, it will be a high-quality component for the finger print lock
scanner. In testing the product, the researchers conducted a sampling procedure which is the fish bowl technique to assess the product. Moreover, the researchers used a
Quantitative data in order to rate the durability, affordability and effectiveness.

Background of the Study Results and Discussion

The number of house break-ins and robbery cases is increasing rapidly every day.
According to statista.com, the number of robbery cases in the Philippines reached about five

people in having safe access control and authentication. Because of the powerful measures that
this technology offers to guarantee that only authorized individuals have access to their
particular devices and information, the goal of a fingerprint lock scanner is to offer a convenient
and safe means of authentication and access. The fingerprint lock scanner fills gaps related to The table shows the rates of the respondents based on the effectiveness,

Conclusion

Significance of the study

Based on the results and findings of the study upon experimentation the
researchers concluded that:
1. The fingerprint lock scanner is safe.
The researcher's study can benefit every individual who will purchase it. Individuals who purchase

carry keys, making access more seamless and secure. The researcher’s product was also proven to be durable
because of the materials used, like Arduino Uno and R307 fingerprint lock scanner that was proven to last 4-
5 years. Lastly, the product was also safe and effective in terms of advanced Biometrics security.
Recommendations
Based on the prior findings and results as well as the experience of the researchers in
Methodology finishing the research product, the following recommendations are suggested:
1 Use proper insulation and protection for electrical components to prevent short
circuits or accidents.
2.Use 12 volts battery charger for energy supply of the product.
3 Add alarm and lcd to make it more effective.
