RE: BRIDGE BEARINGS FOR MTWAPA BRIDGE.

The above subject matter refers.

Reference is made to the Book of Drawings for Mtwapa Bridge where you have specified the
bridge Bearings as follows;

SCHEDULE OF BEARINGS AT ABUTMENT

REF LOCATION SPECIFICATIONS
A. Primary INNER Bearing mark B1 – MK4 (Uni-Directional) Pot Bearing
Bearing PG40000 size 1332*1332*247mm thick or similar to
manufactures specifications and engineers’ approval
OUTER Bearing mark B2 – MK4 (Multi-Directional) Pot Bearing
PM10000 size 701*611*128mm thick or similar to
manufactures specifications and engineers’ approval

We have identified a manufacturer by the name Liuzhou OVM Machinery who have a similar
type of pot bearings as the specified ones. We are recommending to use GPZ
(2009)40DX(M1) for Bearing mark B1 (PG40000) and GPZ (2009) 10SX(M1) for Bearing
mark B2(PM10000).

More details of the Manufacturer and the proposed GPZ type pot bearings are provided in the
attached pamphlet for your review.

We further seek clarification on the layout plan of the Pot bearings since they have not been
provided in the drawings. For instance, the Bearing mark B1 is unidirectional but the allowed
direction of movement (longitudinal or transverse) is not clear.
