CYCLE TEST GUIDE FOR STUDENTS

YEAR: 9

DATE: Test on Wednesday 17th April 2023, Period 7 (Open Book – Study Notes allowed).

SUBJECT: Science

Length of Paper: 30 minutes


Marks: Approximately 30 marks (around one mark per minute)

Content to be revised for the Test:


Content on the test will be related to the following sections of the Year 9 Science course:

• Excretion: What are the different parts of the kidneys and how do they work?
• Density: What is density and how do you calculate it?
• Conductors and Insulators: What properties do these materials have and how can these be
used?
• Conduction, Convection & Radiation: Identify and explain each of these heat transfer
methods.
• Evaporation: Explain how evaporation can cool an object.
• DNA, Chromosomes & Genes:
• Natural Selection & Evolution:
• Safety Precautions when conducting experiments:
• Electronic structure of elements:
• Use atomic number to identify elements:
• Properties of groups in the periodic table:
• Water movement and loss in plants:
• Waveforms: Amplitude, frequency, wavelength, constructive interference, destructive
interference.

Types of questions:
• Data Analysis & Short answer questions

Tips for learners in preparation for the Test:


• The questions can often be tricky. Be sure you carefully read through each question and
each answer before coming to a decision on the day of the test.
• Use a variety of resources as part of your revision (Pages in your Science notebook, Century
AI tasks, flashcards, quizlet, powerpoints, textbook, Internet)
• Review the notes in your class notebook and blue exercise book.
• Correct any mistakes (ask friends or the teacher for help).
• Use quizlets to practice the key terms.
• Ask yourself questions to check your understanding or get a friend or parent to ask you
questions
• Draw a mind map linking the key ideas
