Kardos 2nd Assignment (Chapter 7K-a)

Question – 1: What are Elastic bodies, give 2 examples. (2)

Question – 2: Nathan tries to push the two sides of spring inwards, which Force is he applying on the
spring? (1)
Question – 3: A Spring (10 cm in length) is hanging with a support. Kardos applies a weight of 20 N to it
and the length of spring is stretched to 13 cm. How much extension did He introduce in the spring? Please
mention the formula as well. (2)
Question – 4: Nico is confused in the difference between Mass & Weight, please clarify him.
(2)
Question – 5: If a Person has a weight of 450 N on earth, will his weight be less or more on Jupiter?
(gravity on Earth is 10 m/s2 , gravity on Jupiter is 24 m/s2). (2)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Any object which comes back to its original position after stretching or compressing it is called as
an Elastic object. Springs in beds, pens and trampolines are the two examples.
(1/2)

2. He is compressing the spring which means he is giving a force of “compression”.

(1/1)

3. 10cm + 20 N = 10cm + 3cm (added to spring) = Extension.

Extension = New Length – Original Length
Entension = 13 cm - 10 cm
Extension = 3 cm (1/2)

4. Mass = The amount of matter in your body.

Weight = Force acting on your body due to the pull of gravity. (1/2)

5. On Jupiter you would weigh more because Jupiter has a bigger mass than earth and even though
it’s a gas planet it can still produce more gravity to pull of you. This makes you weigh more (2.4x
more). (2/2)
