2.2 Determine integers 𝑎 and 𝑏 so that (3 − √2)2 = 𝑎 + 𝑏 √2 . (3)

2.3 Anne and Zandi decide to paint a room. Anne paints (4 + 2𝑥 2 ) 𝑚2 .


Zandi starts later and paints 4 𝑚2 . They continue painting the next day and

they both paint a further (2𝑥) 𝑚2 . Determine the total area (in 𝑚2 ) that Anne

painted if she painted exactly double the total area that Zandi painted.d (4)

6.1 Given: 𝑓(𝑥) = 4𝑥² − 16𝑥 + 7

6.1.1 Show, by completing the square, that 𝑓 can be written in the


form 𝑓(𝑥) = 4(𝑥 − 2)² − 9. (4)

6.1.2 Sketch the graph of 𝑓 in your answer book. Clearly indicate the
coordinates of the turning point and of the intercepts with the axes. (5)

6.1.3 Give the range of 𝑓. (2)

6.2 Make a rough sketch of 𝑦 = 𝑎𝑥² + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐 if 𝑎 < 0 ; 𝑏 > 0 ; 𝑐 = 0. (4)
