QUESTION 3

3.1 Given 𝑠𝑖𝑛36° = 𝑡

Calculate the following without the use of a calculator:

3.1.1 𝑠𝑖𝑛 144° (2)

3.1.2 𝑡𝑎𝑛 324° (3)

3.2

3.2.1 Simplify without the use of a calculator: (3)

sin (−10°)
cos (−80°)

3.2.2 A learner needs to work out the value of: (6)

tan 20 o
1 + tan 2 20 o

However, they have spilled juice over their calculator and now the TAN and
SIN buttons no longer work!

Use your knowledge of trigonometry to show how the learner can still use the
calculator to find the value of the expression.
