RESEARCH PLAN

Rationale

Glue ‘cyanoacrylates’ generally refers to any adhesive substance used for sticking

objects together. It has been an important material at home especially at school and

office. This tool is very significant in people’s lives. Without glue, we would not have

paper. The fibers in paper simply would not stick to each other, forming the sheets of

paper that we know.

In our society, we depend on glues and adhesives for a wide number of uses like

making project and doing assignments. Mankind has used glue since ancient times up to

modern times. Glues were made of collagen harvested from animals. Traditionally,

horses used as glue-making material since their body produce number of collagen tissues.

Nowadays, cattle and pigs are more frequently used. Due to the popularity of commercial

glues, we refrain to look for a natural made glue. In view of this, the researchers aim to

prove that there are ways to produce a glue naturally using tree resin.

This tree resin ‘dipterocarpus alatus’ is a sap like sticky substance, that are

generally produced by woody plants, it can be in the bark of a tree or the buds of a shrub.

1700 BCE people used resin as adhesives and medicines. Since they often used it to seal

boats, ropes and tarps.

A resin in a mango is called “dagta” in Filipino or can be called glucose of the

mango. This kind of tree resin help us by knowing that a resin from a mango tree can be

used to create a natural glue. So, this is beneficial to people, since the materials we’ll be

needing can be found naturally.

The main purpose of this study is to prepare glue consisting primarily of natural

components. The fundamental component will be the mango tree resin.

This mango tree resin has a unique quality that makes it differ from the usual we

use everyday glue’s. These quality of mango tree resin, the homemade paste, really come

in hand in handy to our fellows with problems about toxics in their homes. This study is

helpful to us, but it’s also easy to organize in times of financial crisis and emergencies.

Research Questions

This study aims to determine the variation of natural glue made from mango tree

resin. Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. How may the glue made from tree resin be described in terms of;

1.1 color,

1.2 odor,

1.3 viscosity, and

1.4 adhesiveness?

2. To what extent do the three treatments vary in terms of;

2.1 color,

2.2 odor,

2.3 viscosity, and

2.4 adhesiveness?
Hypothesis

There is no significant variation among the three treatments in terms of color,

odor, viscosity, and adhesiveness.

Significance of the Study

The findings of the study could provide information beneficial to the following:

To the students, it helps lessen their expenses in buying commercial glue.

To the community, the results of the study could be used to promote the natural glue: It

may also help decrease the rate of using collagen harvested from animals in the

production of commercial glue.

Time and Place of the Study

The study will be conducted from July-August 2020 at the researcher’s residence

at Malacampa, Camiling, Tarlac.

RESEARCH FRAMEWORK

Identifying problems in the community that can be solved through newly

conceptualized products.

Conducting the study with the guidance of the scientists and advisers.

Collection of materials such as tree resin and powdered charcoal.

Preparation of materials to be used in making natural glue.

Testing the products for acceptability.

METHODS AND PROCEDURE
Gathering data to have the feedback from the respondents.

Research Design

The study will be conducted using three treatments with three replications using

Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) of Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The

treatments are as follows:

Treatment 1 Treatment 2 Treatment s3

15ml of Mango Tree Resin 12ml of Mango Tree Resin 10ml of Mango Tree Resin

Materials

The following materials will be used to conduct the study.

Materials Quantity
Procedures on making natural glue

Step 1: Extract your Tree Resin.

Step 2: Place the resin collected in a pot. Wait until it is melted.

Step 3: Filter out some impurities from one place to another.

Step 4: Stir in a couple pinches of charcoal powder.

Step 5: Pour your tree resin in a container or a jar.

Data Gathering

The respondents of the study are 10 students and 10 teachers of Malacampa

National High School that will be randomly selected.

The scales that will be used for this test are five point Likert scale are as follows:

Five point Likert Scale for Color are as follow:

Scale Interval Verbal Description

5 4.21-5.00 Very Satisfactory ()

4 3.41-4.20 Satisfactory ()

3 2.61-3.40 Good ()

2 1.81-2.60 Poor ()

1 1.00-1.80 Very poor ()

Five point Likert Scale for Odor are as follows:

Scale Interval Verbal Description

5 4.21 5.00 Very satisfactory ( smells good)

4 3.40-4.20 Satisfactory ( smells okay)

3 2.61-3.40 Good ( no foul odor)

2 1.81-2.60 Poor ( moderately smelly)

1 1.00-1.80 Very poor ( extremely smelly)

Five point Likert Scale for Viscosity are as follows:

Scale Interval Verbal Description

5 4.21 5.00 Very satisfactory ()

4 3.41-4.20 Satisfactory ()

3 2.61-3.40 Good()

2 1.81-2.60 Poor ()

1 1.00-1.80 Very poor ()

Five point Likert Scale for Adhesiveness are as follows:

Scale Interval Verbal Description

5 4.21 5.00 Very Satisfactory ()

4 3.40-4.20 Satisfactory ()

3 2.61-3.40 Good ()

2 1.81-2.60 Poor ()

1 1.00-1.80 Very Poor ()

Data Analysis

For research question no. 1

Mean will be computed. To get the mean, the researchers will add up all

the ratings given by the respondents, then divide by number of respondents. For

the percentage, divide the mean by 5 then multiply to 100. Verbal description of

the results on the tests on the appearance, texture, strength, odor and general

acceptability on the study will be used.

For research question no. 2

The variation on the results on the tests on the appearance, strength,

texture and odor on the study was subjected to statistical analysis by using

Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) of the Completely Randomized Design (CRD).

The researchers approached a statistician to do the statistical analysis using SPSS.
