Thank you for pre-ordering HUMAN!

This project has been my sole passion for two years and I’m deeply honored that you’ve chosen this
course to either begin or expand upon your portrait / character creation journey. If you’re like me,
photorealistic characters is something we can’t stop trying to achieve; a perpetual challenge and
education. What it teaches us is as rewarding as the visual results it produces.

This truly is the start of a journey! I can’t adequately express how excited I am to see how you apply
this knowledge!

Pre-order goodies

As part of the pre-order you have access to some key source files ahead of the course release:
● anAtomic: This reference model / tool is used a lot through chapter 1. Feel free to explore it
now for familiarizing yourself with facial anatomy. Bonus points for practicing head sculpts in
preparation!
● simon_final-portrait .blend: Simon was the first R&D portrait of the production. Through his
creation I worked out some major improvements to my skin shading techniques.
● abe_final-portrait .blend: Abraham Lincoln was my favorite US president growing up. He
has such a unique and recognizable face for which I used to level up my likeness skills. Also
his hair style proved a beneficial exercise for chapter 4 of the course.
● colin_final-portrait .blend: Colin is the portrait that the course videos documents. If you
think he’s a similar genre of human as me, you’d be correct and it’s intentional. For first-time
portrait creators I recommend aiming for a person that looks similar to themselves. Because
then you have unlimited reference from the best source. Once comfortable with that then
you’re more apt to branch off and explore different ethnicities, genders, ages, etc.

If you purchased the bundle, you also get these courses now:
● Blender Basics: CGC’s singular starting point for all Blender beginners.
● Fundamentals of Digital Sculpting: Essential concepts for forming 3D organic shapes
artistically, comparable to traditional clay methods. A fundamental understanding of sculpting
with Blender is important for beginning chapter 1 strong.
● Fundamentals of Mesh Modeling: Essential concepts for polygonal mesh modeling. This
relates to retopology, mesh structure concepts, and modeling for the portrait’s glasses in
chapter 2.
● Fundamentals of Texturing: Essential concepts like UV-unwrapping, image textures, and
procedural textures. This is especially relevant to chapter 3.
● Fundamentals of Materials & Shading: Essential concepts for material creation and
rendering. This is especially relevant to chapter 3.
● Fundamentals of Digital Lighting: Essential concepts for lighting and rendering. This is
especially relevant to Chapter 5.
Preparing for HUMAN

Please read the FAQ section of the Blender Market product page if you haven’t already. There’s one
key point I want to reiterate from that section regarding best practice for learning from this course.
Please do so patiently! Take your time watching and applying the same way I took my time
teaching it. That’s right: If you’re not still watching this course 24 months later you’re doing it wrong.

No no, of course not! All I mean is please don’t expect to watch it through once as a long list of
step-by-step instructions that will produce the exact same result from the videos. As with any
complex art form and craft, patience in learning and practice is the key to success. And I desperately
want to witness the fruits of your success!
