The northern region is likely to observe fresh capacity addition of 6600 MW by 2024 & in the state of Uttar Pradesh only. Of this total capacity, nearly 3300 MW is to be
added by central players , while another 3300 MW shall be added by the state Genco UPRUVNL. All the new units shall be super critical and above 660 MW.

Under Construction Thermal Power Capacity – Western Region
The western region is likely to observe fresh capacity addition of 3860 MW by 2028. Chhattisgarh & Madhya Pradesh to contribute nearly 83% of this addition with 1600
MW of capacities upcoming in each state. Upcoming thermal capacities in Chhattisgarh shall be driven by NTPC only, while in Madhya Pradesh, Adani Energy Limited shall
be contributing 100% of the new capacity addition. Of the total upcoming capacity nearly 3200 MW is ultra super critical.

The eastern region is likely to observe fresh capacity addition of 7020 MW by 2028. Thermal capacity additions in the eastern region shall be dominated by Jharkhand,
contributing nearly 53%. As of Sept’2023 Bihar has nearly 1980 MW of thermal power capacity under construction that shall see commissioning by 2024. Approximately,
3720 MW of under construction thermal power capacity in the eastern region is ultra super critical.

The southern region is likely to observe fresh capacity addition of 11610 MW by 2028. Thermal capacity additions in the western region shall be dominated by Tamil Nadu,
followed by Telangana. Approximately, 5640 MW of thermal power capacity in under construction in Tamil Nadu as of Sept’2023. Whereas Telangana to observe nearly
4800 MW of thermal power capacity additions till 2025.
