YOUNG MODEL 1
INTRODUCTION:

IN THESE PRESENTATION WE WILL

KNOW:

• WHAT MEAN YOUNG MODEL

YOUNG
• WHERE USE YOUNG MODEL MODEL
• THE PURPOSE OF YOUNG MODEL
YOUNG MODEL

In honor of the English scientist Thomas Young (1773–1829). Young was the first to
define work as a force-displacement product (also referred to as the Elastic Modulus
or Tensile Modulus), a measure of mechanical properties of linear elastic solids like
rods, wires, and such. This is because it gives us information about the tensile elasticity
of a material (ability to deform along an axis).Young's modulus (E) describes the
relationship between Tensile stress force per area (σ = F/A), and Tensile strain is the
fractional increase in length (ε = ∆l/l0).
Although Young's modulus is named after the 19th-century British scientist Thomas Young, the concept was
developed in 1727 by Leonhard Euler. The first experiments that used the concept of Young's modulus in its current
form were performed by the Italian scientist Giordano Riccati in 1782, pre-dating Young's work by 25 years.[2] The
term modulus is derived from the Latin root term modus which means measure.

Young's modulus enables the calculation of the change in the dimension of a bar made of an isotropic elastic
material under tensile or compressive loads. For instance, it predicts how much a material sample extends under
tension or shortens under compression. The Young's modulus directly applies to cases of uniaxial stress; that is,
tensile or compressive stress in one direction and no stress in the other directions.
Young Model is used in solid materials like:

Spring
Wire Beam

And:Young's modulus is also used in order to predict the deflection that will occur in a statically
determinate beam when a load is applied at a point in between the beam's supports.
The purpose of young model:
Young's modulus of a material is a useful property to know in order to predict the be haviour of
the material when subjected to a force. This is important for almost everything around us, from
buildings, to bridges to vehicles and more.

EX:Metal wire of length 2 mm, square cross section of length 8 mm. A weight of mass 1.2 kg was
attached to it, and it elongated by a distance of 3 mm. Find the value of Young's modulus
