Abstract:
(Written last)

 Informative about report. (reader should be able to decide whether to read detail of
report or not – ie. is it relevant to their enquiry – abstract is a stand alone text)
 One to two paragraphs (less than 200 words approximately) summarising main aspects
of report.
 Include purpose, methods and scope of report.
 Provide report results, conclusions and recommendations.

Project Report Format: - ENME4122.
Guidelines for the report
1. Format: as follows
Notes on Presentation of Report:
(i) Final report neatly bound.
(ii) Typed (12 font, Trebuchet, Arial or Times New Roman – use one font throughout).
(iii) Page margins – top 25mm, left 25mm, right 20 mm, bottom 20mm, tab = 5mm.
(iv) Single line spacing.
(v)Pages numbered.
(vi) Use only one side of page.
(vii) No Borders or backgrounds on pages.
(viii) Check spelling and grammar.
(ix) Use logical section identifiers and number all sections (14 font - bold section
headings).

1.1 Use this type of sub-section identification

1.1.1

(x) Number equations, figures, graphs, drawings and tables

(and reference them in text as required).
(xi) Calculations to be typed - NOT hand written.
(**Do not hand in printouts of lists of calculations from Mathematical Programs)
Analysis to be done using manual calculations, showing logical sequence of problem
solution method and answer.
(Verification of design analysis manual calculations can be performed on CAD – FEA.
Where applicable)
(xii) Detailed technical drawings can be on A4 or A3 (folded to A4 size).
(xiii) Do not glue or stick pictures, diagrams, equations, etc. onto pages in report.

**(remember it is a technical design report not an advertising document –

substance/meaningful work is more important than ‘filler’)

2. Writing Style:
Attention is to be given to the writing style of the report. It is a communication document,
mainly of the technical nature. It is to be easy to understand for the reader. This requires a
quality of writing that flows and is engaging for the reader.
* Reader needs to be able to follow report through in linear sequence, no need to go back and
forward to reference information relevant to the section being read.

3. Appendices:
Place all supporting documentation in appendices. eg. extracts from catalogues referenced.
NOTE: Full Project Report is to be in electronic format.
But a bound hard copy (and an electronic copy on disk) is to be submitted for marking
