CHAPTER 1

Background of the Study

Based on Stephanie Foster of University of Colorado Boulder, Classroom

management refers to actions that an instructor takes to create and maintain a learning

environment that is conducive to successful instruction. These actions include decisions

about structure, organization, and course activities that support students by managing

their expectations and behaviors.

According to Oxford Bibliographies as defined by Carol Simon Weinstein &

Nancy Jo Schafer, Classroom management can be defined as the actions teachers take to

establish and sustain an environment that fosters students’ academic achievement as

well as their social, emotional, and moral growth. In other words, the goal of classroom

management is not order for order’s sake, but order for the sake of learning. Classroom

management is vital for creating an environment that minimizes disruptions, maximizes

instruction time, and encourages students to engage in learning. Research indicates that

effective classroom management contributes to positive learning outcomes. (Centre for

Education Statistics and Evaluation (2020)).

Hence, with the abovementioned definitions of Classroom Management, it can be

clearly classified and defined as the foundation of the students and the young generations

when it comes to learning and self-development. With the lines of the Philippine National

ng bayan”, which clearly means that the youth is the hope of the nation, the educators

and future educators should focus on their learning and self-improvement because of the

young generation right now is way lot more different than what the National Hero have

expected the youth to be.

With the innovation that the world have, specifically when it comes to

education, it is very obvious that classroom management is often being forgotten and it

is different before the world have experienced the COVID-19 Pandemic. Classroom

management is important for the teacher to manage the classroom properly and that

their teaching methods will become more effective for the students and they will have a

better learning environment. Classroom management will also help the teachers to

address a low-level of behavior before they can escalate it with the higher individuals

namely the guidance counselor. With the help of classroom management, the class will

have a lesser issues, such as student’s misconduct like talking during the discussions of

the lessons which could be distraction that will make it difficult for students to learn

and develop their knowledge and skills.

This study aims to enhance the classroom management of the teachers that’ll

match with the students’ needs and expectations of the classroom and to also help the

students to be more motivated to their studies and subject that will become a basis for

them as future education when they graduated with their bachelor’s degree at Luna

Colleges Inc. As a future educators studying at Luna Colleges, they know the struggles

as they are experiencing it right now the lack of classroom management as the learning

modality at the moment is Online Learning, and for the teachers, they know the struggles

when it comes to classroom management because of the modality that they have –

Online Learning.

Both students and teachers cannot the fact that it is more difficult now to manage

students when the teaching modality is online, it is not that the teachers cannot manage the

classroom wholly, but the fact that it is online the teachers are not fully assured that the

students are focused when it comes to learning when it is an Online Class. Based from

experience and silent observation during the pandemic, students are often not focused on

the lessons because sometime the learners are doing something while the class is ongoing,

some of them are not in a proper venue to learn, and some of them are on the part-time jobs

that they took advantage of because of this kind of modality.

Before the educators can conduct a successful and good classroom

management, students should have a clear sight of what they could expect in the

classroom, class subject, classmates, and even with teachers. With this, you have built the

rapport of the students and trust on what should come next after the day has ended.

Classroom routines can also help with the proper classroom management, because as a

future educators it is a responsibility to which students should programed of the

routines that learners should expect when the learners will go to school every day so that it

will be a struggle to catch the attentions of learners, educators can also use the Instructional

Materials and props for us to enable to get the attention and the students can learn about the

subjects or topics during the class.

Statement of the Problem

The purpose of this research was to know the significant effects of classroom

management in the students' learning and how to enhance the academic performance of

3rd Year Bachelor of Elementary Education during the second semester of the school year

2023 - 2024 at Luna Colleges Inc.

Specifically, it endeavored to answer the following questions:

1. What classroom management is more effective in enhancing the

Students’ Learning?

2. What Teaching Method should be used to enhance the Students’

Learning?; and

3. How does classroom management affect Student-Centered

Learning?

Significance of the Study

In this study, the following are the ones who will benefit and how they will be benefited;

Students. This study will help the students to have more participate more in having a well-

managed classroom which can lead to fewer behavioral problems.

Educators. This study will help the students so that they could adapt their teaching styles.

By so doing, the students will learn better and their teaching method more effective and

keep the students interested in the subjects or topics to be tackled in everyday classroom

activities, which will also result in them to have less stress and more productive days.

Institution. This study will help the institution, because of the quality education and

classroom management that enrollees will admire and endorse with their families.

Community. This study will help the responsible students who are a result of quality

education and good classroom management will be a big help for them to implement rules

and regulations that will be followed by many.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

This research will focus on what effective classroom management will enhance the

students’ learning. The 3rd Year Bachelor of Elementary Education during the second

semester of the school year 2023 - 2024 at Luna Colleges Inc will be the respondents of the
