Revision R 2
BLR Aerospace, LLC.
BLR-200-950, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness - King Air 200 Winglet System

5. GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND OVERVIEW

The BLR winglet STC is comprised of a graphite winglet and an aluminum wing tip as
shown in Figure 5-1. The BLR wingtip replaces the original wing tip, and is attached to
the existing wing at station 291. The winglet is attached to the wing tip at station 328.
The lights are contained in the winglet leading edge. The wingtip is conventional
aluminum structure and should be maintained in accordance with standard practices.
The wingtip includes the outboard aileron hinge parts, which are salvaged from the
OEM wingtip. The modification may include wing mounted Gurney Flaps and/or
replacement LED tail lights.

The winglet is constructed of aerospace qualified composite materials with specific BLR
material properties.

The wingtip has two access/inspection panels on the lower skin; one at the inboard end
of the tip, the other at the outboard end of the tip.

The Gurney Flap is an aluminum angle attached to the trailing edge of the inboard flaps,
sandwiched between the upper and lower skins. (The gurney flap is an optional
configuration; see section 6 for limitation details.)

When the modifications are installed, there is no requirement, or means provided, to

“operate” the system. It is a static structural modification, hence, there are no additional
moving parts to service. The aileron hinge and bearing are included on the wingtip, and
should be maintained according to the original maintenance manual.

6. AIRWORTHINESS LIMITATIONS
The Airworthiness Limitations section is FAA approved and specifies
maintenance required under Secs. 43.16 and 91.403 of the Federal Aviation
Regulations unless an alternative program has been FAA approved.

The installation of the BLR Winglet System allows for an optional gurney flap. The
inspection schedule for configurations without the optional gurney flap are included in
section 6.2 below. The inspection schedule for configurations that include gurney flap
are unchanged from the OEM schedule.

6.1 Configuration with Gurney Flaps (optional)

When configured with winglet, wingtip and gurney flap, the STC modification does not
alter any of the factory structural limitations including component life and inspection
requirements. Table 6-1 and Table 6-2 do not apply to configurations that include
gurney flaps.

6.2 Configuration Without Gurney Flaps

For those modifications without the gurney flaps, aircraft inspection requirements
defined in King Air SIRM, P/N 98-39006, Chapter 57-17-02, Table 201 are replaced with
the inspection schedule shown in Table 6-1 for corresponding Index Number items. For
Index items not listed here, the corresponding Index Number items in the King Air
SIRM, P/N 98-39006, Chapter 57-17-02 are valid. NOTE: King Air SIRM, P/N 98-39006
Chapter 57-17-02 may state that it is not applicable to serial numbers BY-122, BY-124
and after, and BZ-1 and after. However, BLR has confirmed that King Air SIRM, P/N 98-
39006 Chapter 57-17-02 is valid for BY-122, BY-124 and after, and BZ-1 and after,
unless superseded here. These inspections are performed in accordance with the
procedures defined in King Air SIRM, P/N 98-39006, Chapter 57-17-02 unless
superseded here.

Aircraft Airworthiness Limitations defined in King Air 200 Series Airworthiness

Limitations Manual, P/N 101-590010-453, Chapter 4 are replaced by the corresponding
Number Airworthiness Limitations items defined in Table 6-2. For numbered items not
covered in Table 6-2 the King Air 200 Series Airworthiness Limitations Manual, P/N
101-590010-453, Chapter 4 Airworthiness limitations still apply.

A. Center Section Lower Forward (Main) Spar Cap Inspection

NOTE: Kit No. 101-1200-1 must be installed on airplane serials BB-1158, BB-1167, BB-
1193 thru BB-1512 and BL-124 thru BL-141, prior to conducting this inspection.

(1) Remove the ten screws and the left and right inboard nacelle access panels from the
airplane to inspect the lower main spar (Ref. Figure 6 – 203).

(2) Clean all dirt and grease from the inspection area with solvent (2 or 3, Ref. 98-39006
SIRM Table 208, 91-00-00).

(3) Eddy current inspect as directed in the following Steps. Use a non-conductive
straight edge as a probe guide as necessary.
(a) Perform CALIBRATION (STANDARDIZATION) procedure (Ref. 98-39006
SIRM Chapter 20-00-00).

CAUTION: Special care must be taken by the operator to ensure that the probe’s
position is perpendicular to the inspection surface to avoid possible lift-off
effects during surface scanning. The ability to hold the probe in a steady position
depends upon the competence and experience of the operator.

(4) Inspect the lower spar cap by slowly sliding the eddy current probe (20, 98-39006
SIRM Table 203, 20-00-00) along the forward and aft edge of the lower spar cap for its
entire length from left wing station (LWS) 109.0 to right wing station (RWS) 109.0. The
probe should be close to the forward skin when scanning the forward edge of the spar
cap and close to the aft skin when scanning the aft edge.

(5) Inspect the area in the left and right inboard and outboard keel area from WS 88.69
to WS 117.31. Using the 90° probe (20, 98-39006 SIRM Table 203, 20-00-00) inspect
the forward and aft edges of the lower spar cap and slide the probe around the
fasteners in the vertical flange.

(6) For the ½-inch area which is covered by the skin attach angle, the inspection can be
performed by sliding a 90° probe (9, 98-39006 SIRM Table 203, 20-00-00) along the
forward and aft edges of the spar lower flange edge from both the inboard and outboard
sides. Suspect cracks in the lower flange will propagate in a forward and aft direction.
Suspect cracks in the vertical flange will run in an up and down direction.

(7) Any vertical deflection that is distinguishable (separated) from the background noise
and not caused by lift-off or part geometry shall warrant further examination and
scanning of the area of interest.

(8) Mark any repeatable crack-like indications equal or greater than 20% vertical
deflections above the baseline/null point. Any repeatable crack-like indication equal or

Revision R 11
BLR Aerospace, LLC.
BLR-200-950, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness - King Air 200 Winglet System

greater than 20% vertical deflections above the baseline/null point shall be considered a
crack and reported via the reporting instructions.

(9) No cracks allowed. If any evidence of cracks or other discrepancies are found, such
as small cracks starting from rivet holes; hairline cracks in spar caps, sheared or
deformed rivets, contact Textron Aviation Technical Support for
consultation.

(10) Install the left and right inboard nacelle access panels and secure with ten screws.
