Speed

• how fast or slowly is the moving

• To work out speed we need to
know:
- The distance something has
travelled.
- The time it has taken to
travel that distance.
Speed
Speed – distance -
time
• the equation to calculate speed can be
rearranged to calculate the distance
covered or the time needed to cover
the distance if you know the
average speed.
16,67 m/s 133,3 s

60000 m
60 km
Example 1
Conversion The speedometer of Sandra's car reads
90 km/h.
Convert this speed to the SI unit (m/s).
Example 1
Conversion The speedometer of Sandra's car reads
90 km/h.
Convert this speed to the SI unit (m/s).

Sandra's car is moving at 25 m/s

Example 2
Conversion Luis measured the wind speed and got a
value of 10 m/s.
Convert this speed to km/h
Example 2
Conversion Luis measured the wind speed and got a
value of 10 m/s.
Convert this speed to km/h

The wind speed is 36 km/h

The graph of distance as a

function of time for uniform
Distance

motion is a straight line

The faster the movement, the more

sloping the straight line is.

Graphs
• A way to present the data
in the clearest way possible
• 3 main types:
• Line
• Bar
• Circle
Main type of
graphs
Line Graphs

• Useful in displaying data or

information that changes
continuously over time
• The points on a line graph are
connected by a line
• Another name for a line graph is
a line chart
What a line graph should have
The table and graph below show the temperature in Frankfurt
recorded in June 2020 over 7 days in degrees Celsius
Bar Graph
• useful for comparing facts
• provide a visual display for
comparing quantities in different
categories
• help us to see relationships
quickly
• can have horizontal or vertical
bars

Good to use when:

Data not changing over time
Each quantity corresponds to a particular category
What a bar graph should have
Students voted on their favourite school subject
CircleGraph

• similar to a bar graph as it

shows results of different
categories
• shows the results in relation to
all categories in a circle
• It is easy to see which category is
the biggest part at a glance
What a circle graph should have
The table and graph below show students’
favourite fruits in percentage
