Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is one of the best kept secrets in Europe. This beautiful city is
divided into two towns by the Danube River. The east side is called Buda and the west side is called
Pest. Buda is the hilly side and Pest is the flat side. While travelers often think of Paris and London as
the must-see cities of Europe, they may overlook the historic Ottoman architecture (建筑)of Buda,
the wide streets of Pest, and above all the sweeping views of the wide Danube River.
The Castle Hill
The narrow streets, historic buildings, and attractive views make the Castle Hill a favorite place
to wander on the west side of the city. Visitors can see the Buda Castle which was the home of
Hungarian kings. The Buda Castle is now the home of the Budapest History Museum and the
Hungarian National Gallery.
The Fisherman’s Bastion
The favorite viewing area for tourists in the Castle Hill is the Fisherman’s Bastion. A bastion is a

popular name. Opened in 1849,the Chain Bridge was the first permanent bridge across the Danube. At
the time it was considered an engineering wonder. Today the Chain Bridge is most famous for its
wonderful views of the city and the Danube River. Just like the Brooklyn Bridge has become a cultural

Questions 28-31 are based on the following passage:

Summer time is a time for children to stretch their legs, get out of the classroom, and change their
daily routine. But it is also a time when learning habits and exercising can begin to dwindle. There are
a great many benefits to helping them get moving during the summer months. Physical activity during
summer vacation can help children retain what they’ve learned, exercise their brains, prepare them for
the school year ahead, and encourage a love of physical activity that can last them a lifetime.
After school lets out for the summer, academic skills can begin to fade. But that doesn’t mean that
children need to spend their summer vacation sitting at a desk. Studies show that kids who engage in
2-3 hours of educational activities per week can retain the skills they’ve learned during the previous
school year. Movement can also help children retain what they’ve learned, enhance comprehension of
concepts, and support the learning experience. Incorporating (把…纳入)movement and education
into the summer months, whether it be by combining cooking and mathematics or hiking and physics,
can help your kids retain those critical skills they’ll need in the coming year.
Recent studies have indicated that exercise can also substantially improve memory. In a study
conducted at the University of British Columbia, researchers learned that aerobic exercise (有氧运动)
can actually energize the part of the brain that is responsible for memory and learning. It stimulates
blood vessels (血管)in the brain, helps protect cells, and helps grow new blood vessels in the brain.
Physical activity also helps to grow, adapt, and respond better to future challenges. Even 20 minutes of
moderate-intensity exercise per week can be enough to improve your child’s memory. In addition,
getting kids involved in sports and interactive games helps them develop important social skills such
as communication, cooperation and participation.

28. What does the word “dwindle” (Para. 1) most probably mean?
A. Combine. B. Increase. C. Develop. D. Fade.
29. What are children encouraged to do in summer time according to the passage?
A. To do physical activities.
B. To prepare for the school year ahead.
C. To memorize what they’ve learned.
D. To improve their learning habits.
30. According to the passage, the effective way for students to retain their learned skills is .
A. to spend their vacation sitting at a desk
B. to incorporate movement and education
C. to take 2-3 hours of classes at school per week
D. to take part in cooking or hiking clubs
31. What is important for strengthening the brain according to the passage?

Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford since the day he was born, Kirsten McGowan can give proof to
the challenges of having a child who is frequently in the hospital. It is especially tough for her son
Patrick, 7, because patients with cystic fibrosis must sometimes stay confined to their rooms and

In the new hospital, even kids who can’t get out of bed or leave their room can still engage with
nature. Outside each patient room window is a planter box fall of greenery, and every floor has
spacious backyards, offering children and their parents a convenient way to go outside without leaving
the unit.
“When you’re in the hospital, you need some given space that’s kind of your own, where you can
read a book or play with your child,” explains McGowan, who also works as a parent advisor in the
Family-Centered Care department. “Places like the gardens create a sanctuary where we can step
away from the stress of being in the hospital. ’’

Children’s Hospital Stanford. The original facility opened in 1991 and is now the hospital’s West
Building, and it will begin its own multi-year renovation (翻新)project, ultimately transforming into
