Preparation is a key to a successful interview. Does the idea of going to a job interview make you
feel a little nervous? Many people find that it is the hardest part of the employing process. But it is not
really true. The more you prepare and practice, the more comfortable you will feel. You should find out
as much as possible about the company before you go to the interview. Understand the products that
they produce and the services that they provide. It is also good to know who the customers are and
who the major competitors are. Practice makes perfect. It will also make you feel more confident and
relaxed. So, practice your answers to common questions. Make a list of questions to ask, too. Almost
all interviewers will ask if you have questions. This is a great opportunity for you to show your
keenness, enthusiasm, and knowledge.
Make a great impression. The interview is your chance to show that you are the best person for
the job. Your application or resume has already exhibited that you are qualified. Now it is up to you to
show how your skills and experience match this position and this company. The employer will be
looking and listening to determine if you are a good fit. He/she will be looking for a number of different
qualities, in addition to the skills that you possess. To make the best impression, dress appropriately;
express your strengths; arrive early, by about 10-15 minutes; be enthusiastic; shake hands firmly; be
an active listener; sit up straight and maintain eye contact; and ask questions
After the interview, follow up with a thank-you note. This is a chance for you to restate your interest
and how you can benefit the company. Your best bet is to try to time it so that the note gets there
before the hiring: decision is made. You should also follow up with a phone call if you do not hear back
from the employer within the specified time.

VI. Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the
correct answer to each of the questions.
Successful students often do the followings while studying. First, they have an overview before reading.
Next, they look for important information and pay greater attention to it (which often needs jumping forward
or backward to process information). They also relate important points to one another. Also, they activate
and use their prior knowledge. When they realize that their understanding is not good, they do not wait to
change strategies. Last, they can monitor understanding and take action to correct or “fix up” mistakes in
comprehension.
Conversely, students with low academic achievement often demonstrate ineffective study skills. They
tend to assume a passive role, in learning and rely on others (e.g., teachers, parents) to monitor their
studying, for example, low-achieving students often do not monitor their understanding of content; they may
not be aware of the purpose of studying; and they show little evidence of looking
back, or employing “fix-up” strategies to fix understanding problems. Students who struggle with learning
new information seem to be unaware that they must extent effort beyond simply reading the content to
understand and remember it. Children with learning disabilities do not plan and judge the quality of their
studying. Their studying may be disorganized. Students with learning problems face challenges with
personal organization as well. They often have difficulty keeping track of materials and assignments,
following directions, and completing work on time. Unlike good studiers who employ a variety of study
skills in a flexible yet purposeful manner, low-achieving students use a restricted range of study skills. They
cannot explain why good study strategies are important for learning; and they tend to use the same, often
ineffective study approach for all learning tasks, ignoring task content, structure or difficulty.
