WORK INSTRUCTION FOR THE DETERMINATION OF ASH

PURPOSE : DETERMINATION OF % OF ASH

SCOPE :L.C.A.,Sawdust , Graphite ,Pitch,Oil, Graphite-Carb & Baked Fines.

R&A :QUALITY CONTROL & LAB PERSONNEL’S

PROCEDURE :

1. Dry Crucible at 9300C+- 100C for five min. Weigh empty silica crucible (W1)
2. Weigh 1gm of sample (If sample is in granular form ground it fine and sieve it
through 212 microns sieve ) in dried empty silica crucible (W2).
3. Set Muffle Furnace Temp. to 9300C +-100C place in muffle furnace to heat for 3Hrs
4. Take sample along with crucible and cool in decicator.
5. Weigh the sample.
6. Place again sample along with crucible in muffle furnace for same temperature . For
one hours.
7. Take sample along with crucible and cool in decicator.
8. Weigh again if weight found as no (5) note it as (W3)
9. If not continue heating is muffle for 1 hrs , to repeat procedure till to get constant
wt. (W3)

CALCULATION: Percentage of moisture = [W3-W1]/[W2-W1]X100.
