Today I am going to present one of the weirdest sports that exists - toe wrestling.

The history
behind the beginning of this fascinating sport is extremely absorbing. There were four pub-goers,
who were really disappointed that the UK was losing every world championship during the 70s.
They decided to change it and soon came up with this unique sport. Toe wrestling is similar to
arm wrestling. There are two opponents that lock their toes and are trying to pin each other’s feet
down. There are few rules. Players have to take off their shoes and socks. There are three rounds
and the winner has to pin the opponent's foot down on another person’s flat two out of three
rounds. Players first lint their right foot, in the next round left foot and if it is needed again right
foot. The battle takes place on a specially built podium, or “toedium”, that has two walls on either
side. The first championship in this sport was held in 1994 in Derbyshire, which is located in
England. Since then it is held annually in August in the Haig Bar in Derbyshire. The most awards
won by Alan “Nasty” Nash, who is a multiple-time champion. However the champion who won
against Alan is Ben Woodrofe. And now I’m gonna read what he has said about his experiences
and sacrifices in toe wrestling.

Being a toe wrestler does have its downsides: it can be very painful, toes can
break, and you can get blisters and sore knees. As with any contact sport, you
have to be careful of hygiene, too – there can be fungal infections, verrucas or
warts. Four years ago, to get a competitive advantage, I got my big toenail
surgically removed. It would dig in when competing and was a hindrance, so it
was time for it to go.
