1 Introduction
1.1 Scope
This document describes the 14.4 kbit/s circuit switched data feature.
The feature involved is GBFD-119405 14.4kbit/s Circuit Switched Data.

1.2 Intended Audience

This document is intended for:
 Personnel who need to understand 14.4 kbit/s circuit switched data.
 Personnel who work with Huawei products

2 Overview of 14.4 kbit/s Circuit Switched Data

Carrying data services in the CS domain enables operators to provide more services and increase the
revenue.
Huawei GSM BSS supports the transfer of PS services on individual speech channels with a high rate of
14.4 kbit/s for transparent data services or 14.5 kbit/s for non-transparent data services. This rate is
higher than the common rate of Circuit Switched Data (CSD) services. In this manner, the user
experience is improved.

3 Technical Description
To support this feature, the MSC must support the data service of 14.4 kbit/s on a single timeslot.
At the BSC, select NT14_5K and T14_4K in the DATATRAFFSET parameter to support 14.5 kbit/s
non-transparent data services and 14.4 kbit/s transparent data services.
When an MS initiates a CSD service at a rate of 14.4 kbit/s, the MSC informs the BSC of the service in
the assignment message. The BSC then assigns a TCHF to the MS for the call.
