I. Theoretical Background

Over the past century, there has been no significant change in our waste disposal methods.
However, with the current surge in waste production, it is imperative that we adopt modern
solutions to effectively handle our waste. The exponential growth of the global population has not
resulted in a reduction in the waste industry (Lettieri, 2023). On the contrary, the increasing number
of individuals leads to higher consumption, thereby generating a greater amount of waste that
needs to be addressed. Unless we begin utilizing technology to enhance our waste management
systems, cities, and businesses should anticipate an escalating waste management predicament as
long as our consumption patterns persist (Smartbin.io, 2023).

The environmental impact of waste has led to a growing demand for efficient recycling
solutions. Traditional recycling methods heavily rely on user participation, leading to
contamination and inefficiencies—this became an avenue for EcoBin Connect. The statement
introduces "EcoBin Connect" as a response to this challenge, positioning it as a solution to
revolutionize waste management. It addresses the limitations of traditional recycling methods,
which heavily rely on user participation and often lead to contamination and inefficiencies.

The product is inspired by “Trashbot.” Trashbot employs cameras and sensors to examine
waste products. A machine learning algorithm, utilizing a Bayesian classifier, categorizes the waste
into either landfill or recyclable materials. CleanRobotics specifically focuses on busy areas like
airports, convention centers, shopping malls, and educational institutions (Synced, 2018).

Like the Trashbot, EcoBin Connect’s primary goal is to enhance recycling efficiency,
encourage user participation, and promote sustainability. By automating the sorting process and
providing users with real-time data through a mobile app, EcoBin Connect aims to make recycling
more accessible and engaging for individuals and communities.

EcoBin Connect’s primary objectives:

• Enhancing Recycling Efficiency: The product aims to automate the sorting process,
indicating a departure from traditional manual sorting methods. This automation is likely
to lead to more accurate and efficient recycling, reducing the chances of contamination and
improving overall recycling rates.

3
• Encouraging User Participation: Recognizing the critical role of user engagement in
successful recycling programs, EcoBin Connect seeks to make recycling more accessible
and engaging for individuals and communities. By leveraging technology, the product
intends to create a user-friendly experience that encourages people to actively participate
in recycling efforts.
• Promoting Sustainability: EcoBin Connect aligns itself with the growing demand for
sustainable practices by incorporating features that provide real-time data through a mobile
app. This not only enhances user awareness about their recycling habits but also contributes
to a broader culture of sustainability.

II. Project Description
