Lesson Plan
Lesson Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to demonstrate safe practices and use of
safety equipment (TEKS 1A), observe labeled drawings to collect data (TEKS 2B), construct
maps to analyze data (TEKS 2C), form reasonable explanations by interpreting patterns
through pictures (TEKS 2D), and effectively communicate data through written results (TEKS
2F).
Summary of Tasks:
Once students are seated for class, introduce the lesson by asking the class if they know what
personal protection equipment is.
Start the lesson by going over the “Presentation 1”. This will take 15 minutes
After the presentation is finished, a tour of the classroom will be conducted. Use “Assignment
1 Teacher Guide” for the tour. Instruct the students to follow you around the room as you
guide them to the location of each safety equipment. Give a brief explanation of the location,
then move on to the next item. This should only take 5 minutes.
Once the tour is completed, the students should return to their assigned seats to complete
individual classwork. Give each student “Assignment 1”. Students are required to identify
where the safety equipment can be found in the room. This will take 10 minutes.
Assign every student “Homework 1”. Students will label the equipment shown and describe its
purpose. This is due the next day.
End the class period by encouraging students to ask any questions that they may have. Do a
review by quickly restating what was discussed in the lesson presentation.
Lesson Plan
Once the students are seated, hand out “Bell Ringer 1” for a review of what was discussed in
class the day before. Students will complete the puzzle by choosing the correct equipment that
matches the description. This should take about 10 minutes.
After the review, introduce the topic for the day by asking the class if they have ever had an
accident happen in class because they did not follow safety rules.
Start the lesson by going over the “Presentation 2”. This will only take 5 minutes.
Once the presentation is finished, students will complete individual classwork. Give each
student the “Assignment 2”. Students must search for the mistakes in the photos and describe
which safety rules were not followed. This should take 15 minutes, but if the students do not
finish, they may take it home to complete.
End the class period by assigning their homework. Students will take home a “Homework 2”
that they must read, fill out, and sign. The student’s guardian must read and sign the contract as
well. This is due the next day.
Day 3: Conclusion
Once the students are seated, instruct them to turn in the safety contract and any work they
took home to complete the day before. This should take no more than 2 minutes.
Next, instruct students to open “Bell Ringer 2” on their Chromebook for a review of what was
discussed in class the day before. Students should determine the correct answers to the
questions asked. This should only take 5 minutes.
After the review, explain to the students the activity for the day. Students will collaborate as a
class to create a safety contract that will be displayed in the room. This will take only 10
minutes.
To end the lesson, students will take a quiz on safety equipment and laboratory safety to
demonstrate what they have learned. Students have until the end of class to finish.
