Library automation refers to the use of the computer to automate the typical
procedures of libraries such as cataloguing and circulation. In the process of
library automation, a library makes the use of computers and other technologies
to support its systems and services. Library automation is the conversation of a
libraries procedures from manual to computerized. Such as from a card catalogue
to an OPAC, or from manual circulation cards to an integrated library system.
Automation is a process of using machinery foe easily working and saving human
power and time. The main purpose of library automation is to free the librarians
and library staff and to allow them to contribute more meaningfully to the spread
of knowledge and information. In Library Science automation is ‘the technology

Digital Library:
The immediate goal that set before us is to allow access to all researchers in social
sciences to important material available across the partner institutions and also
facilitate the partner institutions to share the knowledge bank available with
us. The first step in this digitization programmed is to get as many books, theses,
documents, journals and rare materials for the use of the researchers. Our goal is
to open this knowledge portal and the materials to all those who seek such help.
D-Space:
BUL has launched an ePrint digital repository of scholarly publications for quick
and easy browsing.
Shodhaganga:
Thesis and dissertations are known to be the rich and unique source of
information, often the only source of research work that does not find its way into
various publication channels. Thesis and dissertations remain an un-tapped and
under-utilized asset, leading to unnecessary duplication and repetition that, in
effect, is the anti-thesis of research and wastage of huge resources, both human
and financial.
The UGC Notification (Minimum Standards & Procedure for Award of M.Phil. /
Ph.D. Degree, Regulation, 2009 Amendment made on 2016) dated 5th May 2016
mandates submission of electronic version of thesis and dissertations by the
researchers in universities with an aim to facilitate open access to Indian thesis
and dissertations to the academic community world-wide. Online availability of
electronic theses through centrally-maintained digital repositories, not only
ensure easy access and archiving of Indian doctoral theses but will also help in
raising the standard and quality of research. This would overcome serious
problem of duplication of research and poor quality resulting from the "poor
visibility" and the "unseen" factor in research output.
As per the Regulation, the responsibility of hosting, maintaining and making the
digital repository of Indian Electronic Thesis and dissertations (called
“shodhganga”), accessible to all institutions and Universities, is assigned to the
INFLIBNET Centre.
BUB library Presently have 25 PCs with internet connection to give services to
the library users for web browsing.
