I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Describe the ideas of Greek philosophers and astronomers about the solar system.
2. Differentiate Geocentric Model and Heliocentric Model about the solar
system
3. Analyze the impact of Greek ideas on modern astronomy.
2. Greetings
“Good Afternoon, class!” “Good afternoon, ma’am”
You may now take your seats and pick “Thank you so much ma;am”
up pieces of paper under your table let us
make sure that the classroom is clean
when we enter and leave the classroom.
3. Checking of Attendance
“Who’s the Secretary of this class?” “Cabugnason, ma’am”
“Okay Miss Cabugnason, submit to me a
sheet of paper of the list of student who is “Okay ma’am”
absent for today.
“ Thank you”
4. Gathering of Assignments
“In this time, may you please pass now “ Students passed their assignments in
your assignments” front”
“ Thank you so much!”
5. Review
“Yesterday, we tackled about “The
beginning of the Solar System” Am I “Yes, ma’am”
right?
“So, Mr. Fernandez what is it all about?” “Our solar system formed about 4.5
“Very Good” billion years ago from a dense cloud of
interstellar gas and dust. The cloud
collapsed, possibly due to the shock wave
of a nearby exploding star, called a
supernova. When this dust cloud
collapsed, it formed a solar nebula – a
spinning, swirling disk of material”

Comprehension Check:
1. What have you observed in the
pictures?
2. What are the differences between “Students are answering actively”
Geocentric Model and Heliocentric
Model?
3. How did their ideas contribute to our
understanding of the solar system?
8. Presentation
Geocentric Model - The Geocentric
Model, which placed Earth at the center
of the Universe, was first proposed by the
Greek philosopher Aristotle.
This model was later refined by Ptolemy,
who added epicycles (smaller circles) to
explain the apparent retrograde motion of
planets.
9. Setting Standard
The activity is called “Compare and
Contrast”. The students will be group into
three and assign each group a philosopher
or astronomer (Aristotle, Ptolemy and
Copernicus) Ask them to research and
summarize the philosopher’s or
astronomers ideas about the solar system.
Then, ask each group to compare and
contrast their assigned philosopher or
astronomers ideas with the others. The
teacher will give them Meta Cards
(materials, procedure and questions) The
students only have 10 minutes to answer
all the questions. The students will then
write their answer in manila paper
provided by the teacher. After 10 minutes
the students will present their work in
front of the class.
B. Exploration
To find out more about the Ideas of
Greek Philosophers and Astronomers
about the Solar System, I want you to
