A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE V

I. Objectives
At the end the lesson the pupils will be able to:
A. define Astronomy
B. knows the different planets in the solar system
C. describe each Planets in the solar system
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: Astronomy (The Planets)
B. Materials: books, visual aids, cartolina, powerpoint presentation
C. Reference: Edu570 module, books et. Al and Google http://www.jeffreybennett.com
D. Science Process: Observing, Communicating, Classifying

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary activities
Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!
Let us pray. All are praying.
a. Checking of Attendance
Who are absent today? None Ma’am!
Very good class, so nobody is absent for today.
b. Review
What was the topic that we discuss last meeting? Teacher, our topic last time is about meteorology

Very good! Let’s give yourself a round of a applause.

c. Motivation
I have here a video presentation of the Solar
System. I want you all to watch and listen
attentively on the video. And after watching. I
will ask one of you about your favorite planet Yes Ma’am!
and the reasons why is it your favorite.

B. Lesson Proper

Today, we will tackle about Astronomy. (Pupils raise their hands)

But before we proceed to our topic, do you have any
idea about Astronomy?

Yes Dyan? Ma’am, Astronomy  is a natural science that

studies celestial objects and phenomena.

Very Good Dyan,

Any answer? If none, we will continue our lesson

How about the Planets? What are the different planets

in the solar system?

Yes, Wayne? The different planets in the solar system are

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,
Uranus, Neptune
Good job Wayne!

Now we will discuss the Astronomy and the Member of

the Solar System

Astronomy is the scientific study of celestial objects

(such as stars, planets, comets, and galaxies) and
phenomena that originate outside the Earth's
atmosphere (such as the cosmic background radiation)
Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences.

Are you all following class?

Yes, Ma’am!
Now, we will talk about Planets.

Planets as large objects such as Jupiter or Earth that

orbits a star. Planets are smaller star, and they do not
produce light.
Mercury- is the smallest and innermost planet in the
Solar System. Its orbit around the Sun takes 87.97
days, in the shortest of all the planets in the Solar
System.
Venus- is the second planet from the Sun. It is named
after the Roman goddess of love and beauty. As the
second-brightest natural object in the night sky after
the Moon, Venus can cast shadows and can be, on rare
occasion, visible to the naked eye in broad daylight.
Earth- is the third planet from the Sun and the only
astronomical object known to harbor life.
Mars- is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second-
smallest planet in the Solar System, being only larger
than Mercury. It is also called the red planet.
Jupiter- is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest
in the Solar System. It is a gas giant with a mass one-
thousandth that of the Sun.
Saturn- is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second-
largest in the Solar System, after Jupiter. It is a gas
giant with an average radius of about nine times that of
Earth.
Uranus- is the seventh planet from the Sun. It has the
third-largest planetary radius and the fourth-largest
planetary mass in the Solar System.
Neptune- Is the eight and the farthest-known planet
from the sun in the Solar System. The third-most-
massive planet, and the densest giant planet.

Are we clear about the planets? Yes, Ma’am!

Does anyone have any questions or clarifications? None Ma’am!
