Subject: Solar System Section: BMSEE
Time: 8:00-9:00 am (everyday) Room: Building B Room 3

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the period, the pupil will be able to:
a) To recite the eight planets of our solar system in proper sequence
b) List the main components of our solar system
c) To determine the other Celestial bodies in our Solar System

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Solar System

Materials : Pictures, Charts, Projector , Multimedia

Value Focus: Gain a greater appreciation for the frailness of Earth

III. PROCEDURES

Learning Activities
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
Monitorial Task:7:00am-7:15am
Flag Raising Ceremony:7:15am-7:30am
A.PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES

ü Opening Prayer
ü Checking of Attendance
ü Review of the Past Lesson

B.MOTIVATION

(The teacher will ask some questions)

(The teacher will post a picture of different

planets in the solar system)

“Can someone identify what is in the (Pupils will respond)

picture?” “Sir it is a planet.”

(Pupils will respond)

“How about this one?” “Sir that is our sun.”

“Do you know some other celestial bodies in (Pupils will respond)
our solar system?” “No sir”
(Pupils will respond) “No sir”

Activity

“So,if your ready to explore, fasten your

seatbelts and will explore our solar system,
and after that we will have to answer some
questions about the video you’ve watched.
(The teacher will present a short video of our
solar system and other celestial bodies)

“Did you find the video exciting?” (Pupils will respond)

“Yes, Sir!”

“Are you ready to answer some questions? (Pupils will respond)

“Yes, Sir!”
Discussion Questions
• What are the eight planets that are (Pupil will respond)
mentioned in the video? “Sir, the eight planets in our solar system are
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,
Uranus and Neptune.”

• What the celestial bodies or heavenly (Pupil will respond)

bodies that can be found in our solar “Sir, the celestial bodies or heavenly bodies
system? that can be found in our solar system are
star(sun), asteroids, meteoroids, comets,
planets/dwarf planets, and natural satellites of
every planet.”

“Okay good, and those are the objects that

can be found in our solar system.”

Abstraction

“A solar system is a collection of the Sun,

eight planets and their moons, comets,
asteroids, meteoroids, and dwarf planets
revolving around the Sun.”

“Today we are going to talk about our solar

system”

(The teacher will post the definition of solar

system and its components)

“The Solar System is the gravitationally

bound system of the Sun and the objects that
orbit it. Of the bodies that orbit the Sun
directly, the largest are the four gas and ice
giants and the four terrestrial planets”

“Who can name the four terrestrial planets?” (A pupil will respond) “Sir, the four
Terrestrial Planets in our solar systems are
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars.”

“How about the other four Gas and Ice Giants (A pupil will respond) “Sir, the four Gas and
Planets?” Ice Giants Planets in our solar system ar
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.”

“Okay,Very Good!”
“The eight planets revolving around the Sun
in a sequence are Mercury, Venus, Earth,
Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.”
“The Solar System formed 4.6 billion years
ago from the gravitational collapse of a giant
interstellar molecular cloud.”

(The teacher will post some pictures of other

celestial bodies in our solar system)

“Based from the video you have watch, what (A pupil will respond)
is this in the picture?” “Sir, that is a comet.”

“Correct!”

“Comets are frozen leftovers from the

formation of the solar system composed of
dust, rock, and ices. They range from a few
miles to tens of miles wide, but as they orbit
closer to the Sun, they heat up and spew gases
and dust into a glowing head that can be
larger than a planet.”

“How about this one?” (A pupil will respond)

“Sir, those are asteroids and meteoroids”

“Very Good!”

“Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit

the Sun. Although asteroids orbit the Sun like
planets, they are much smaller than planets.
Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit
the sun. Although asteroids orbit the sun like
planets, they are much smaller than planets.”

“A meteoroid is a small space rock moving

through a solar system. Space is full of
meteoroids. Most meteoroids are small, the
size of pebbles or dust from a comet's tail, but
they can also be quite large. If a meteoroid
enters the Earth's atmosphere, it's called a
meteor, or shooting star.”
“And for add up , I am holding a picture of
our moon . Our moon is one of the natural
satellites that can be found in our solar
systems. Natural satellites – orbit planets and
asteroids in our solar system. Earth has one
moon, and there are more than 200 moons in
our solar system. Most of the major planets,
all except Mercury and Venus have moons.”

“So those were the objects that can be found

in our solar system and also comets, some
planets, asteroids and moon can be seen at
night”

“Is there any question?”

“If none, I will group you into two groups”

APPLICATION

Group Activity

There are two groups, they will arrange the

sequence of the eight planets from the sun and
identify the given pictures of asteroids,
comets and meteoroids. The group who will
finish and done it correctly will win and have
a prize after.
